Show E s S THE OGDEN ELECTION 1 S j The result of the municipal election at S Ogden yesterday is a matter of tho deepest S r deep-est regret to all lawabiding people j j S throughout the entire Territory It is S S intensified by the uncertainty or rather t tho improbability of such legislation r during tho present session of Congress asS as-S S will wrest the political power l in Utah from the hands of those who have S BO long and effectually wielded it in antagonism to the principles of He S l publican institutions and to the exclusion of every person from ofiico who would perform his duties faithfully and inS in-S harmony with tho Federal authority to S which it is tho pleasure of uvui lru I > American to acknowledge hi nra S 4 mount allegian 1hl1 p uil of Utah wore lots l I n > mlly to O leii t > core c luipoitaut victory in fi ora t ti I I in pltt which mint pro S van ire th gifts which nature has bo 5it lanj > iiv tiistowtJ upon our Territory can h be lu teed for tho gunoral good of the r r people Tilt result is a disappointment I S somewhat mitigated it is true by the p1 nearness to success rite Liberals made S a gallant light and aro entitled to k full credit therofor Thor ur several ii 1r7 i V S S reasons assigned for the failure to achieve i the anticipated victory Probably the I bunKllns work of the Conference Com S I mutes upon the Tucker bill lost t to the I Liberal ticket a sufficient number of votes to have turned the nearly balanced scales It doubtless lost for it the wavering wa-vering Mormors who were waiting for such Congressional action as would protect hem from tho persecution of the priest t iood before uniting themselves politically politi-cally with the opposition to tho Church and State party There was also considerable con-siderable dissatisfaction manifested at he disproportionate allotment made by the Liberal Convention as between be-tween tho two loyal political par ties in making the nominations It was claimed that but two or at most hree of tho nominees wero Democrats while flue other eleven or twelve core active and pronounced Republicans seine of whom It was claimed were so bitterly partisan that they refused to vote for Colonel W M Ferry for Delegate I to Congress and were identified with the little clique which voted for District Attorney Dickson The uniformity uni-formity of the vote for the different Liberal Lib-eral candidates however indicates that while realizing the unfairness in tho distribution tribution the Democrats did not permit It to drive them from the path of duty but that they took their medicine like men and voted the entiro ticket It is quite certain however I that a more equitable distribution would have been more satisfactory to tho fair minded voters of both parties and added generally io the strength of the ticket Perhaps however the lesson will not be lost and that in future united action a less discriminating policy in that respect will be pursued |
