Show SHERMAN TALKING He feels IIInicclr by Ceuutlng on I the Flajr Incident PrrrsBtnio July 2Senator Sherman passed through this city this morning en route from the East to his home in Ohio In an interview ho emphatically denied the statements about Blame credited to him in a New York interview published in this mornings papers and said ho hI was not interviewed in New York What appears in the morning papers was manufactured I was in a room at a hotel where o number of gentlemen were talking but I was not interviewed I never said that Blaine was not a candidate for tho Presidency I dont know whether ho is a candidate or not and I certainly would not make such a statement state-ment unless I did know Nor did l unles now or say anything about his giving himself up to literature Blaine and I are the best of friends and it is unkind to put words into my mouth that I never uttered Some politicians ticians say he may not have the same element ele-ment of support in New York that he had during the last campaign As regards interviewing in-terviewing all I ask is t6 be let alone Is the rebel flag question likely to be revived re-vived during the next Presidential campaign cam-paign 1 I will not be forgotten I will rise up during the next campaign n and will likely play an important part I cant see the motive mo-tive of President Cleveland in issuing the order for the return of the flags It may have been carelessness but it was a serious serouo question that should have boon handled very cautiously |
