Show = J SUDDEN AiNB YSTJEBlODS DEATH t t I joscpirwiSaycrs flies at the Bcscrot r Hospital This OTorninff I I On the 18th inst n prepossessing and I cultured young man named Joseph W I Sayers registered at the St James Hotel t in this city and was assigned to room 36 During the past week lie made the acquaintance ac-quaintance of many lady and gentlemen guests about the place impressing them favorably with his courteous demeanor Yesterday afternoon and evening up to 11 oclock he was seen along Main street and from all outward appearances was in a normal condition At 10 oclock last night he entered Moore len k Cos drug store while Mr W Wilson was on watch Mr A Manning called m and isked Mr Savers and Wilson to step Coffee Johns and across the street to Cofce aut have ClOE some oysters Mr Sayers thanked him for the invitation but replied thlt 1 J did Tint care to Cat Mr Wilson i and Manning went to supper locking the store door and returned in about forty minutes Shortly after entering the store and while smoking smok-ing a cigar a rap came at the door and Mr Sa ers came in staggering He dropped his cane on the floor and in reaching for it fell down exclaiming Im a little full boys but it is seldom I get in this condition you know They i helped him to arise and after reasoning about what to do with him Mr Wilson decided to let him occupy his cot in the rear of the store Sayers immediately fell asleep and at 7 oclock this morning he was in the same sound stupor Customers Cus-tomers beginning to arrive the gentle men concluded it best to remove nun 10 some more appropriate place and took I him to r D Sprigues stables back of the White House whore lie was left as the state to sober up from what they supposed was intoxication In the course of an hour or so Mr Sprague was engaged to convey him to the Deseret Hospital This being done and no signs of reviving taking place Doctors Bowers and Richards were summoned sum-moned These gentlemen did all in their power to arouse him to consciousness but in vain he never moved or spoke a word and at 10 55 this morning he orca mea ills IHSI ins uruiuuimiuM I Duncan McGinnis of Bingham Canyon Utah has been wired and will arrive this evening No post mortem examination has been held but the physicians say chloral had been taken but whether by his own hand or administered by others is not known Joseph W Sayers was about 24 years of age with light mustache and corresponding corres-ponding hair fair skin and blue eyes i He was in the habit of wearing glasses and will be remembered by many in the city He was attired in a dark dress hat coat and vest and light pants His shirt was of fine wool no jewelry was on his person but several memorandums and short hand notes besides various letters I from relatives in London his home were found A letter written from the St James sealed and without post stamp was found in his coat addressed to Mr McGinnis I is hoped this letter will shed some light on the unaccountable unaccounta-ble death I I |
