Show RAilWAY RUMBLES The D tc II G Ins Adopted the Standard Gnage From Denver to the Utah Border Line The D I G Western Will Probably Follow Suit and Run a Third Rail to Ogden A Corroboration of The Democrats Midland TalkTo Connect With the C PA Traffic Contract The Denver News of Sunday has the following of general interest in this Territory Ter-ritory The Directors of the D R G railway rail-way returned from their tour of inspection inspec-tion over the road last night and the gentlemen who came from the East will L return to their homes tonight nil the important I im-portant business having been transacted at the sessions held during tho tour over the road The adoption of a standard I auage to principal point in the State is I probably the most important move on the part of the directors but they have also transacted other affairs which insures an aggressive policy which will put the road on a very substantial basis TOE STANDARD GUAGE ADO1TE1I At the meeting held at the Springs yesterday morning the directors decided to standard gauge their line from Pueblo to Leadville and Red Cliff by laying a third rail and frem Red Cliff to Aspen to build a broad gauge road giving them a standard gauge line from Denver and Pueblo to Aspen This is Pleblo a splendid stroke of policy and places the Rio Grange in a position to meet all competitors tors and obtain their full share of the business of the State In is also their intention to continue the standard gange line to Grand Junction Junc-tion and the Utah border where they will unite with the Rio Grande Western which will in all probability lay n third rail to Ogden thereby Divine the Rio Grande system a broad gauge connection on all the important points on their lineThis This action on the part of the directors gives evidence oi their appreciating the railroad situation in the State and that they propose that the Denver Rio Grande shall retain its place at the head of the railroad processioq in Colorado Extensive orders have been given for the equipment to run on the broad gange line The latest style of passen tier coaches Pullman sleepers and L Buffet cars have been adopte 1 New and powerful freight and passenger locomotives loco-motives are under contract and orders have been given for heavy steel rails andiron and-iron bridges for the entire distance from Denver to Aspen MIDLAND TALK The same paper has tho following which beside being a corroboration of TiE DEMOCRATS Midland talk gives some additional points of interest It is rumored in railway circles both here and in Salt Lake that the Colorado Midland railway has a party of surveyors at work on the border between the two States with a probable view of extending extend-ing the line to Salt Lake City The extension ex-tension over the Utah border will be connected con-nected with the Rock railway which was sold a few days since to a party of Eastern capitalists I is said that the Midland is to connect with the Central Pacific and that a traffic contract is in preparation and will be signed in a few days This action on the part of the Midland shows the fine Italian hand of Jay Gould and looks as thpugh the Missouri Pacific will be a formidable rival of the Santa Fe as a transcontinental route The Missouri Pacific is to use the Midland tracks and will form the means of that roads extreme western outlet |
