Show THE ANNEXATION MATTER A gentleman from Nevada and a 1 member of the last legislature of that State states to THE DEMOCRAT that fet vadans Avould never endorse Senator Stewarts proposition for tho annexation of such portion of Utah as was outlined in a recent numbor of this paper He Ears moreover that no such proposition + i J was ever submitted to the people by the Senator and that the supposition is that his scheme is only for the annexation ol the Southern portion of Idaho to which they are generally favorable THE DEMOCRATS DEMO-CRATS authority for its statement of the Senators position in the matter was an interview with Hon John Hailey published pub-lished in an Idaho paper Mr Hailey as a Congressional Delegate from a Territory Ter-ritory so directly interested certainly ought to be well informed and it seems almost impossible that he should have been mistaken It seems however more surprising that the Senator should make such a radical change in his programme from the one which he submitted to the people of his State during his canvass If he has done BO his constituents should lose no time in protesting most emphatically against the attachment of their loyal little State to the tail of the Mormon Kite They will find that they will be sufficiently annoyed by the introduction in-troduction of such a disturbing element into their politics as the comparatively few followers of the priesthood living in I the portion of Idaho proposed to be annexed I an-nexed With the addition of Utah they would be completely snowed under by the avalanche of Mormon votes |
