Show TIlE WOOD RIYER STRIKE The Times Sums Up the Affair in About the Right Manner The Miners Unions have concluded to publish their resolution of accepting 350 We are glad to see them comeback come-back to their senses but regret the fact that so many able men should have lingered lin-gered four months in a torpid state of silly opposition to their own good They were expected to understand from the outset that that the prosperity of this country is identical with that of its mines and that any stoppage of work in the mines must result to the disadvantage of the miners But many of the latter were the illadvised tools ofa few demagogues and even if they could see the evil consequence conse-quence of their course they were bound to follow it Well the outcome out-come is what every man of sense I I and cool judgment foretold that far I from bettering their condition the strikers strik-ers have made it worse They lost the wages of four months they drained the country all around for contributions and proved that in a free country what cannot can-not be got in accordance with the law is not worth getting by mere force Now as the matter stands we hope the court will find no difficulty jn dismissing the several cases that have arisen out of the lead strike as we see no earthh use instill in-still increasing the burden of the taxpayers tax-payers which has already been made very heavy by that piece of folly The county indebtedness doubtless exceeds 200000 by this time and if it increases much more property will not be worth having I |
