Show THE WEEKLY WRESTLE Busiucbs Done By the City Council Last Evening The City Council held its regular meeting last evening at the Council chambers and ground out the following business A petition was received from C E Silverwood John Vincent Arthur Parsons I Par-sons H J Wallace and others asking I that the practice of storing oil in cars on I i the switches be discontinued They represented rep-resented that on the Fourth West Street Switch there stand eight tankcars containing con-taining 4500 gallons each beside the immense quantity stored in the yards by the Continental Oil Company The marshall mar-shall was instructed to enforce the ordinance or-dinance J F Long and John Edwards asked the privilege of leasing the sand bank on the brow of the hill on the west side of City Creek canyon near the residence of John Carruthers Referred to the Committee Com-mittee on Public Grounds A petition asking that Second West street between Second and Fourth North streets be graded was receiyed from Thomas Bishop and others and referred to the Committee on Streets and Alleys John Carruthers also asked for the lease of the sandbed above mentioned Referred William Woolen was granted a free merchants license for one year on account of age and infirmity S F Fenton and Mrs Harriet C Tay lor handed in petitions asking permission to tap the city water mains at their own expense to convey water to their respective re-spective residsnces I The following was read SALT LAnE CITY April 101887 To the Hon Mayor and City Council of Salt Lake City Gentlemen I respectfully tender to your honored body resignation as City Watermaster to tako effect not later than the first day of May By that time I i will endeavor to have everything in this department de-partment in good running order for my successor suc-cessor My reason for resigning is thai I have accepted another position that will oo cupv all my time I have been associated with the city government for more than seventeen sev-enteen years fourteen years as Assessor and Collector and eight years of that time as City Councilor and the balance of the time in my present position During this period there have been fire different mayors and eight new city councils elected and many changes in other pity officers with all of whom as well as with the public my official relations have been generally pleasant and agreeable for which on retiring I desire to express my thanks Very respectfully JNO R WlNDEE Accepted The City Attorney reported for the past quarter Received and filed The Committee on Waterworks re e r > c fir 11 f < < > ported favorably on the petition of James Chesny 156 W Fourth South street asking permission to tap the city water mains The Committee on Fire Department reported that they had examined and found correct the report of the Chief Engineer En-gineer for the past quarter The Committee on Streets and Alleys reported favorably on the petition of Trowbridge Eccles asking permission to pile brick on Eighth South street between be-tween Tenth and Eleventh East The bill of the gas company for lighting light-ing 282 street lamps for three months at 35 each per annum 246750 and for lighting the city buildings for the same period 30750 a total of 2775 was allowed and the ammount appropriated One thousand dollars was appropriated to the Street Supervisors contingent fund The nuisance license was again laid over and the Council adjourned to the Theatre |
