Show t I A SAD DEATH Little Joe Vallace Taken Airay With But a illoturntB Notice The accident which occurred at the Continental Hotel last evening has I brought forth the sympathy of all who have heard the sad story It occurred as follows Shortly before 6 oclock Mrs H C Wallace tho wife of the Alta merchant who is a guest at the hotel went to the front door to take her little boy Joe into in-to dinner As she approached the child she was terrified by the horrible expression expres-sion on his face and was about to pick him up when he was seized with a violent convulsion Taking the child into the parlor Mrs Wallace held him on her lap while Dr Hall was sent for In the mean time poor little Joe was suffering fearfully and ceased to struggle but a few moments before the doctor arrived Finding the child quite still Dr Hall made a hypodermic injection of apo morphia and was about to make an injection of chloral hydric when he concluded that the child was dead I Upon investigation in was found that the little boy had gotten hold of a bottle of small pills containing nux vomica and had taken a large number of them Dr Hall states that he prescribed the pills for the child in January last and that after taking a few of them the treatment was discontinued as the child was perfectly per-fectly well Not more than half an hour before Mrs Wallace found her boy at the door she had prepared him for dinner and then allowed him to go down stairs and play with the other children it seems that Joe offered the pills to other children and that little Bessie Glendinning swallowed swal-lowed one but this was of course not serious Mr Wallace who was in Alta was telegraphed to and arrived this morning morn-ing to help sustain tho stricken mother in her great sorrow Although the passing away of a little child is always a most mournful event the circumstances attending the death of this little one is calculated to touch with unusual acuteness the tenderest fibres of the human heart He was a bright little fellow who won the affections affec-tions of all with whom he came in contact He was the only remaining child of his parents a little brother and sister havihg preceded him to their home beyond the skies I is indeed a fearful blow to the now childless pair May they find consolation in the assurance that their darling has found safe refuge in the arms of Him who said Suffer little children to come unto Me for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven |
