Show w 0 J t i > 4 THE FIGHT FOR SILVER iI i I Two Delegates Elected to the Coining I niIYTetalllc Convention I jug DIMetallc COiTention At4 oclock yesterday afternoon Messrs H C Chambers McCornick Packard James and Billing assembled at Baskin VanHorns office pursuant to a thor I oughlyannounced meeting of the Utah silver men An expression of disappointment disap-pointment spread itself among the five gentlemen present who at once took in the situation and realized that the important impor-tant responsibilities of this general meeting I meet-ing were shirked by the many and left t for a short halfdozen to attend to t AV F James said he thought a meeting I meet-ing of as much vital importance to all I Utah as this silvermens meeting would call out a better representation In the absence of the president Mr F AV Billing was elected chairman and Mr AV G Van Horn permanent assistant secretary Mr J Q Packard of the I Eureka W F James of the Maxfield K I C Chambers of the great Ontario and Messrs Billing and McCornick composed I those present throughout the session I The purpose of electing two delegates to the BimetaUc National Convention was I carried out and resulted in choosing C C Goodwinand Co1 E P Ferry T Q Packard and L R Holden were elected alternates I These two delegates ate to unite with I those from other Territories in the coming II silver fight The question of money to defray the necessary expenses of sending I two delegates to the convention was considered con-sidered Mr Chambers said that the Ontario company would pledge 2500 toward the required amount Mr Ferry stated that the merchants of the Park had raised 350 to which he gladly added 2 making an addition of 375 The miners of Park City are greatly interested in-terested and promise a contribution As at least 5000 is required to present the situation of Utah in this matter properly prop-erly before Congress other contributions from all business men are looked for to I help the matter along The pamphlet prepared some time 9ince by Mr Ferry and submitted to a designated committee I to adjourned revise was discussed and the meeting |
