Show S FEDERAL APPOINTMENTS The Judgeship afarslialship and Governorship Who is to be removed and who appointed ap-pointed to the Federal positions in this Territory are questions that not only agitate officeholders and officeseekers but the people as well In all probability the first appointment made will be to fill the vacancy made by the resignation of Judge Emerson of tho First District F S Richards is now in Washington and it is alleged by Ogden ites that his mission js to urge the claims of R K Williams for the judgeship but those who seem to know what they are talking about incline to he belief that Judge Hoge has the inside track Captain Cap-tain Smith seems to have been lost somehow in the shuffle The next change made will probably be in the MarshalshSp For this position Frank Dyer of Park City seems to take the lead and his appointment would meet with general approval Col Wm M Ferry of Park City is also a candidate He does not solicit the appointment and if it is given to him it will be a case of the office seeking the man The Michigan Michi-gan Congressional delegation has recommended recom-mended him to the administration Governor Murrays resignation has been forwarded to Washington It is said to be rather a unique document with the appearance of having been framed in a selfsacrificin spirit seeking to convey the impression that while the Governor would like to remain he does not desire to stand in the way of the administration administra-tion and wishes to spare President Cleveland Cleve-land the necessity of removing him It is said to have been prepared in a newspaper office of this city Of course this resignation was not forwarded for-warded with the idea that it would be accepted but should President Cleveland l take it into his head to give Utah a Democratic Dem-ocratic governor there is rumor for very wide speculation as to who the gubernatorial guberna-torial lightning would strike It has been faintly rumored very faintly that Col Merritt who is now in Washington is an aspirant but it is the impression of the Colonels friends that he is not seeking the office and w u1d not accept the appointment ap-pointment The probability of Governor Murrays early removal is so remote that all speculation as to his successor is rather premature |
