Show MORE THAN SENTIMENT A Republican the other day remarked to the writer that the objections of the Democracy to the Mormon Delegate Caine beingon the Congressional Committee Com-mittee was only a sentiment and that his being there had no political significance signifi-cance If only a sentiment it is one which is highly creditable to the Democrats Demo-crats of Utah and which is i illustrative of their sense of political honor in the mat ter of associates and representatives But it is with them more than a sentiment senti-ment It is a matter of importance not only to the Democracy but to all of the Gentile people in Utah that the Mormon representative should be located politically politi-cally where he rightfully belongs When this is effected he will find himself as a Congressional Delegate in a gang by himself repudiated by both parties stripped strip-ped of his mask shunned by all as apolitical a-political leper and standing alone a solitary I soli-tary representative of Mormonism at the Nations Capital That is his rightful position He has no sympathy with the I principles of either of the great National parties nor right to participate in their councils His object in smuggling himself him-self into the Congressional Committee was to gain whatever prestige he could from his pretended connection and affiliation affili-ation with the dominant party for the I benefit of the Mormon cause If forcing him to run against a regularly nominated e Democratic candidate causes his eject ment from the Congressional Committee as it most certainly willmore practical practi-cal good for the Gentile cause will be accomplished ac-complished than could possibly be effected by any other course that could S have been pursued by the Democrats in L Utah |
