Show DIAMOND RING DARLING A i V Junction Tlilcf Arrested by Detective Franks Detective Franks arrested a fellow at Lehi last Saturday by the name of N E Darling The fellow was charged with the crime of grand larceny he being stolen diamond I suspected of having a ring from Mrs Cora Miller in P V Junction Junc-tion last September the circumstances of the case being about as follows One day in September 1885 Mrs Miller who is a dressmaker at the Junction Junc-tion took from her finger a diamond ring m order to wash her hands She i laid the ring on the wash stand Soon after Darling who at that time was a cook at the Southwick House went over to Mrs Millers for some purpose and while the ladys back was turned nabbed the diamond When Mrs M missed her ring she advertised for it offering of-fering a reward for its return Darling not beingjsuspecteu knew he had a solid thing on the ring so kept mum In due course of time ho left P V and came to this city when he pawned the ring for 20 at Tomney and Hillsteads saloon Wishing to raise more money on i he got Gillespie the broker to take it from where it was in hock and advance additional ducats on it l went smoothly By and by Darling redeemed the ring and put out for California from where he returned some time since In the meanwhile Mrs Miller had written t Franks regarding the ring I asking him to keep his eye peeled for the stone Franks pot on to I the passion business and wrote Mrs M that 0 fellow named Darling had l soaked 0 ring answering her description She wrote hack that Darling had been in < = her room on such a day hut no suspicion rested on Darling tie cook During all these months Franks has kept his eyes open for the thief and finding find-ing out that he was in Lehi went down Saturday and raked the fellow in This morning he was taken before Commissioner Norrell when he waived examination but failing to give bail was taken out to the bull pen He says he will two be able to raise bonds in a day or |
