Show THE following extracts are taken from the Descrct Evening News of March 11th 1885 They are from the News report of the Simpson polygamy case They speak for themselves and show that all is imf peace within Robert J Deighton after standing the crossfire of Mr Dickson for some time was also excused He said he was a member of the Mormon Church but was in doubt as to his standing lie was decidedly de-cidedly opposed to the practice of IiOiy amy a-my and believed the revelation on that subject was bogus In the absence of law in the matter he would consider that any man who had two living and un divorced wives or who cohabited with more than one woman was guilty of amoral a-moral wrong He was challenged Isaac Jennings said he thought he was a member of the Mormon Church but did not consider himself in fellowship with that body He believed polygamy morally wrong Did not think the revelation revela-tion on the doctrine of polygamy was from God Regarded it as spurious He had prejudice bias in Ito I no nor in opposition to the prosecution against polygamy He was accepted and sworn Mr John D Spencer was the next juror examined He was also a Mormon Mor-mon as were his family and many of his relatives lie considered himself in good fellowship with the members of that Church But when Mr Dickpon touched upon his belief concerning the doctrine of having more than one wife atone at-one time Mr Spencer stated frankly that I he did not believe it right lie was scarcely prepared to say that he considers d the revelation on celestial matri ape spurious but at the same time he did not beliove in it He admitted that it i might have been given of God but believed be-lieved that it was morally wrong to practice prac-tice it In his opinion there was no person per-son dug who was good enough and pure enough to five a proper life in the practice prac-tice of polygamy He thought the principle prin-ciple of plural marriage was revealed from God and that the revelation enjoined I obedience on the part of those who believed be-lieved it but still he considered it wrong for any one to obey it I |
