Show I I I Time ITIissiutr Scotia FIBS ISLAND March 25A steamship is ashore near Beno Point station Staten Island fifteen miles east of here Her masts are gone but her pipe is still standing stand-ing She is well upon the beach and appears to be settling A moderate gale from the northwest is blowing with a heavy sea running It is said the vessels is the French steamer Scotia Captain Huffiat which sailed from Marseilles February 20th and from Naples February 23d via Gibraltar Gibral-tar for New York She is said tohave a large number of steerage passengers aboard The Scotia is of 1628 net and 2492 gross tonnage The steamer struck at 4 oclock this morning The vessel is the Scotia The lifesaving people > have got lines to her but owing to the heavy surf they have not been able too to-o anything in the way of taking off the passengers She has one thousand Italian Immigrants board |
