| Show i = TIlE TRUE BLUE DEMOCRATS I j Only last Saturday the Tribune had this to say concerning the true blue Democrats Bv the way the true blue Democrats who read the sheet which was ostensibly established estab-lished to enlighten the world on what real Democracy is are wondering if the editor of their paper would ever have dissolved his allegiance to the Mormon church if there had not been a change in the ruling family in the kingdom upon the decease of his father Many of his near acquaintances I declare that the editor of the DEMOCBAT is much nearer being a good Mormon than a good American It will interest the Democrats generally gener-ally to know who are meant by true blue Democrats as the term is used by the Tribune It may be that some will surmise that it means those Democrats Demo-crats who have always been and still are opposed l to a union of Church and State in Utah as well as elsewhere So far as we have ever known all Democrats in all places and at all times have been op j posed < to such a union whether amateur I ama-teur or true blue In what sense the Tribune intended to use the term it I Impossible to say but we can say how I they have used it heretofore On the 12th of May last it had the following to say concerning the President and true blue Democrats I The news that the Democratic leaders propose pro-pose to 1 whip the President into a stnetly Bourbon groove is only wrong insomuch as the announcement is premature By tacit consent the time for bringing the pressure to bear was last spring postponed until the meeting of Congress next December Then the intention is to give Mr Cleveland the altenative of either heading a Democratic Administration or doing so without the help of the genuine Democracy The determination j determina-tion is to have him either make his Administration Adminis-tration purely Democratic or to serve him as the old Whigs did Tyler And as Mi Cleveland it a true blue Democrat it is reasonable rea-sonable to expect that by that time ho will have thrown as many crusts to the Mug wumps as he will have cared to and that with the coming on of the short days of winter we shall see ihe countty as fully ill Deinoeratie hands us it wa < > in WO As language is ordinarily used and construed con-strued the inference to he drawn from this is that the true blue Democrats arc those men who turned against their country and wore the gray instead of the blue But what is to become of those Democrats who fought tactile Union in the Northern armies and such there are even in Utah Are they t amateurs or true blue It is i just possible l that the I true blues spoken of on the 25th inst in reality means black Republicans as heretofore there have been no true men or citizens save those who supported Mr Blaine last fall It is true t that there are such Democrats upon the Tribune but it is hard to reconcile recon-cile such advocacy of Mr Blaine and his various schemes for distributing the whisky tax and the like with Democracy even so insincere and bogus a thing as amateur Democracy Only a true blue could have done such a thing and still retain his Democracy But the newspaper that holds the foremost place among newspapers for a thousand miles in either direction is the arbiter as to what is and what is not Democratic Thy will be done on earth as it is in he1cll |
