Show q I SOUTHERN UTAH NOTES I Tilinlaig nn < i Miscellaneous Jtlention nlnluA Reef of Frisco and thc The Star camps are shipping large qnanties of ore to northern smelters Both the Christy and Stormont companies compa-nies are operating to their full capacity The old Leeds mine at Silver Reef has Leds been leased and work begun by John HallA A sale of the Bismuth Group mining property inGranite district is pending between Mike Powers and an English company Value 45000 Twelve thousand head of horned stock have been transferred from ChurchIsland Cattle Company Pine to the RyanReam Catte Grove ranch this week A fine strike was made last week in the Shenandoah one of the group of mining properties upon which Mr A G Campbell Camp-bell is concentrating his energies For years these North Star mines have lain dormant awaiting a judicious expenditure of capital to prove to the world that we capial have good paying ledges home Years have ago before the Horn boomed North Star was a flourishing town with business fourishing houses and the usual camp surroundings But the place was shortlived other excitements ex-citements sprang up and one day the bottom bot-tom dropped out of the camp Mr Campbell is spending a large sum of money Campbel reopening these old claims with an abiding faith in their productiveness productive-ness At the Horn Silver dead work goes on monotonously with but little prospect of tapping the ledge and opening up the vast ore body that lies below the 700 level before the first of the year I is believed that as soon as the Milford reduction re-duction works are ready operate a force of miners will be put into i the cave with a view to handling that vast mass of mixed ore and waste Another shaftcontract has been let and this main artery now 1200 feet deep will soon be 1300 with drifts to connect it with the ledge at every 100 feet so that when live work is resumed the mine will be in a splendid shape to operate By the present system of contract work shaft and drifts are being be-ing run at an exceptionally low price the Average cost 16 per foot for a perfect per-fect threecompartment shaft and roomy drift A large shipment of sulphides was made from the Silver Reef leaching works to Salt Lake City last week G L Harding a member of the firm of Nesbitt Bailey Co is nowm the city purchasing material for the new works which will be in running run-ning order next month this company has bought the Leeds mill site and the foundation foun-dation is being laid for the plant The works will have a capacity of seventy tons per day of the soft Reef ore A years experience in the way of practical work leads the manager to feel sanguine of success and the prevailing opinion is that our lowgrade ores can be profitably worked by this process Tailings carry 8h ounces silver have been advantageously advantage-ously treated The incentive already given to the mining is favorably felt by the business interests of Silver Reef inasmuch in-asmuch as lowgrade mines heretofore worked just enough to keep up the assessments assess-ments are now being systematically worked |
