Show TOUCHINGLY TENDER I i The solicitude of the Republicans for I the welfare of the country since the country coun-try has come under the control of the I Democrats is very touching Who would 1 have thought the country would have stood the change so well It would seem that the country is standing the change much better than the Republicans who I saved the country In saving the country coun-try a good many of them especially since 18G8 have been saving themselves them-selves harmless also But now they are sore distressed because the Administration Adminis-tration occasionally makes a bad nomination nomina-tion and withdraws it but more particularly particu-larly because of the withdrawal of the nomination than for any other reason It withdraws from them very valuable ammunition am-munition which might bo used in the next campaign The Democratic party was pledged to reform in the last campaign cam-paign and the Administration is adhering adher-ing very closely to the pledge This also is a thing very much to be regrettedby the Republicans The cry for spoils has been heard but the cry has died away in the distance and the spoils men have not had their wants gratified Last year during the campaign Republican orators ora-tors were assuring the country that every man who held an office under the Government would be turned out to make way for hungry Democrats and yet this prediction has not been fulfilled which raises a cry of woe from those who predicted such dreadful things This is a great disappointment to those who do not like to be battled in their theory of things as those who once followed their lead must now doubt of their sagacity for such leadership It is consoling to have the sympathy of those who have allowed the country to have its own way for a brief while for sympathy is a great thing when you cannot have anything else The magnanimous manner in which the Republican press volunteer advice to a I 1 Democratic Administration by pointing I out what to do and what not to do whereto where-to avoid a shoal here and a shoal there is very kind of them and it is very unkind of the Administration not to heed these free and unselfish warnings They are much like the warnings that the iVews I gives the Supreme Court occasionally about unconstitutional decisions and hoI ho-I the Government will go to pieces if such decisions are persisted in What the i I consequence of not heeding these warnings iI i warn-ings by ths Supreme Court has been we j I well know in this Territory and if the I I new Administration does not heed the warnings of the Republican press the same terrible things will befall it as have I befallen the country through the Supreme Courts failure to adopt the construction I put upon the Constitution by the News Yes the solicitude of the Republicans is I very touching and tender and they will be rewarded for the samein the hereafter here-after I |
