Show S A SLIGHT MISTAKE ITIr C E Barratt Denies That He Has Been Appointed a Commissioner Com-missioner for Utah WASHINGTON March 301883 ED DEMOCRAT I beg the use of your valuable columns I believe that is the proper wording to guard my reputation against possible damage I enclose you a notice clipped from the National Republican Republi-can of March 28th I did not know of it i until today when two former citizens of Salt Lake one of them in the Treasury department called at the Riggs to congratulate con-gratulate me and through me the terri tory on the existence of the appointment appoint-ment After a vain attempt to look important im-portant and wise I told them it was a slight mistake and asked them if I looked like a man whose services 1 were worth o000 a year and contingencies contin-gencies I have not yet decided what action I shall take it is difficult always to canyon a damage suit successfully against a t paper no matter how aggravated aggra-vated the case Seriously this will serve at least to show how poorly even those here in government employ are informed of affairs at a distance even when as prominent as Utah matters ExSenator Paddock and I arrived and registered at the same time hence probably the blunder The notice of Mr Paddock was n as loiiows r ExSenator Paddock and Mrs Ole Bull are stopping at the Riggs And now the exSenator is looking up some route by which he can escape Eastern East-ern Nebraska his friends here having flooded that section with the notice and sent them even into his once happy home h I enclose another notice in regard re-gard to Judge Prince from today Post which may be of interest Very truly yours C R BARRATT The following are the notices referred to by Mr Barratt Mr C R Barratt of Salt Lake City is at the Riggs Mr Barratt is one of the Utah commissioners who will hold a session ses-sion here today Washington 1 National Republican March 30 Judge Bradford L Prince of the United States Circuit Court of New Mexico is here according to rumor for the purpose of retaining in office the present officials of Utah Territory Washington Post March 30 c |
