Show CRUSHED TO ATOMS The Massachusetts Wreck Worse I Than That White Hirer Junction The Emperor William Tells De Les seps That Germany Will Never Attack France A Destructive Fire in Baflalo A Verdict Ver-dict for tho Panama Railroad I Company Manning for Europe gl lUc BOSTON March 11The revised listrof injured in-jured in the railroad accident yesterday shows that 114 were wounded BOSTON March 15 All night long a force of laborers was engaged in clearing clear-ing up the debris of the wrecked cars and at the scene of the bridge disaster It was slow work and but little headway was made yet the men worked hard and when the light of morning was sufficient for the continuation of the work without means of artificial arti-ficial light the work progressed more rapidly Ropes were stretched around the scene and all persons who wore not actively engaged in clearing away the wreck were forced to keep outside the line A large force was put at work in taking the broken bridge apart The baggage bag-gage car and one of the rear cars of the train had been completely demolished and all that marks the spot where those two cars were at the base of the embankment is a heap of kindling wood The wreck is a more appalling sight than the recedt ruins at White River Junction and this points strongly tothe faot that the train was running at a speed of fully twentyfive miles an hour The forward for-ward cars which lie on the embankment and roadway remain in the same position as when they fell There were undoubtedly nine oars in the train as thf tin tops of nine are to be found but the remainspf two cars ire in such a state of demolition that it is impossible to discern whether they were two cars or one This was caused by the fall down the embankment Consequently the rumor has prevailed that there were but eight cars in the train AN EXPERTS OPINION Prof Swain of the Institute of Technology Tech-nology who has made an examination of the wrecked bridge discovered what ho considered to have been the cause of accidents He thinks thero were n series of defects in some portions of the bridge not only in the material used but in the way of construction |
