D r s i IIIi III Professor Antone Marlon Andrus Isaiah Prows Contributing Writer Professor Antone Marlon Andrus landed a position here at the community college in the fall of 1982 and later helped to establish the well-respected well Finance Department I Andrus has set an example to all the professors students students students stu stu- dents and faculty at by his awards and achieve achieve- ments With no spare time Andrus stays busy by teaching teaching teaching teach teach- ing preparing seminars and when all of that is done he Andrus Cont on Page 2 It 1 f 1 1 I i I 1 r. r J Andrus Cont Cant from front dedicates what little time is left to his book in the making The last four years Ive I've been trying to finish my book called Ten Thousand Students Later said Andrus Ive spent over SOO hours This makes it hard to do other things like play tennis go to the mountains or do photography As a native Utahn Andrus was born and raised in Draper He is the middle child in a family of three siblings and served in the Utah National Guard two weeks after graduating high school While studying finance and banking at BYU he received his real estate lic license nse which paved the way for his financial Andrus received his bachelors bachelor's degree from BYU and later a masters master's masters master's mas mas- masters master's ter's degree at the University of Washington through the Pacific Coast Banking School If you think education is expensive expensive expensive sive try ignorance said Andrus quoting an unknown author This is one of Andrus' Andrus favorite quotes and it hangs high on his office wall Starting at First Security Bank Andrus moved his way up in the rankings He eventually became the vp v.p. manager for six different branches leaving banking 14 years later It shocked the world when I left the bank Andrus said I even shocked myself but when I realized realized real real- realized that there was a whole world out there I just walked away from the bank With the pressure responsibility and politics Andrus says he got burned out Reflecting upon his past he realized realized realized real real- his happiest moments were teaching seminars for the bank so he decided to apply at an undisclosed undisclosed undisclosed closed university I remember it like it was yesterday yesterday yesterday yester yester- day said Andrus The interview- interview I er tola me mG u L a n would sometimes have to teach a class and that's all I wanted to do Andrus then decided to call the Dean of who encouraged him to apply for one of the two positions available Shortly after applying and over interviewees interviewees interviewees wees later Andrus was hired for forthe forthe forthe the fall term terrain in 1982 Since then and as the first person person person per per- son in Utah to receive the National Teaching Excellence Award Andrus feels proud During his teaching years at he has also been honored with various awards including Favorite Teacher Teaching Excellence Outstanding Faculty student body Outstanding Faculty School of Business and Outstanding Contribution The Executive Lecture Series was organized by Andrus and has been running for 14 years As a manager for First Security Bank he was able to get to know people like Mark Miller president of Mark MarkMiller MarkMiller MarkMiller Miller Automobile Dealerships David E.
