Show PTA takes on new meaning at i. i f. f Ryan Roosendaal f Contributing Writer The Physical Therapy Assistants Club also known as PTA wi will l be working working working work work- ing hard during the next two weeks to gather board games and art supplies They will be donating what they collect to a shelter for abused children located downtown This is one of the many activities that the Physical Therapy Assistants Club has put together since its organization eleven years ago Club members love to serve and seek opportunities to do it said Faculty Advisor Ken Freeman The Physical Therapy Assistants Club plans at least two service projects each semester For one of their past ser ser- ser ser- vice projects they went to different high schools in the area to instruct students interested in health occupations about physical therapy assisting and what they do There they also show students how to use wheelchairs and crutches to give them an idea of what people with disabilities have to face and the knowledge knowledge knowledge knowl knowl- edge to show others how to use them as well They have also volunteered their services services services ser ser- ser ser- vices at the Primary Childrens Children's Hospital The club gives students a way to organize service projects said Freeman Physical therapy is a service oriented profession Along with Freeman club President Jenny Peterson who is a student at heads Physical Therapy Assistants Club The club also holds regular social events for their members where they share food such as at pizza parties and play sports The Physical Therapy Assistants Club gives students involved with the physical therapy assistants program an opportunity ty to socialize and participate in meaningful service We have great students and they do doa a really good job said Freeman Im proud of them Those interested in joining the Physical Therapy Assistants Club need to be enrolled in the Physical Therapy Assistants program and then must speak with Freeman or Peterson A fee of 20 is paid each semester The Physical Therapy Assistants Club meets monthly at the Redwood Campuses Lifetime Activity Center in room Due to finals however the club will not be meeting in December For more information I about the club and when it will willbe willbe willbe be meeting next semester semester semester semes semes- ter please contact Ken Freeman by phone at or orby orby orby by email at |
