Show Students battle for favorite speaker Lockhart Contributing Writer Students from got the opportunity to voice their vote on who they would like to come to and lecture on Nov 14 The students were able to choose between two speakers Spike Lee or Nancy Cartwright This event was sponsored by the Fine Arts Lectures This day is for Fine Arts Lectures members to promote themselves and their activities and to allow students to have input on which speaker to bring to the campus This promotional event took place outside of the Student Life Leadership Office There was a lot lotof lotof lotof of participation from the students as they eagerly got their friends and fellow classmates to vote There was an open tally vote on a huge poster board so that everyone walking by could see which speaker had the most votes Boxes and boxes of free doughnuts helped to persuade students to take part in the voting process Many of the students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents came back for seconds Before the students could receive a doughnut they first had to fill out aFine a aFine aFine Fine Arts Lectures Survey which asked them about themselves how active they are when it comes to campus activities and for their email email email e- e mail address so that Fine Arts members members members mem mem- bers can put together an interest list and email interested students about upcoming activities Some students walked past the display and didn't want a doughnut but wanted to vote for either Lee or Cartwright How can you compare the two asked Miguel Nieto a student stu- stu student student stu stu- dent who voted for Spike Lee In addition to the giant poster and the doughnuts there also was a well rounded music selection playing from punk to hip hop Marlin Martin Clark Dean of Students was jamming jamming jamming jam jam- ming to the music along with many other students winning asked Nieto The excitement continued as asmore asmore asmore more students came to participate in inthis inthis inthis this event and even tally their own vote on the giant poster Faculty members also got involved and watched the excitement excitement excitement excite excite- ment as it arose from the students This is a good idea to have the students choose s said id Ed Tanner a Counselor Some students watched patiently to see the ending results The vote ended with votes for Spike Lee Leeto Leeto Leeto to Nancy Cartwrights Cartwright's 76 Fine Arts and Lectures Day gave a great awareness of their board aswell as aswell aswell well as Student Life Leadership This was a great idea to allow the students to vote for Spike Lee or Nancy Cartwright This lets students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents have a voice in hi the activities that are brought to SL C said Ashley Greenberg Student Body Executive Vice President Spike Lee is tentatively scheduled scheduled scheduled sched sched- to speak on Mar 11 about diversity at the Grand Theatre i |
