Show 0 Bruin volleyball players serve up team spirit Gerald Narciso The Globe Patience is a virtue Just ask volleyball volleyball volleyball volley volley- ball players Cali Wilcox and Kylee Kerby Both players have seen very limited action Lady Bruins I dress it up upOn upOn upOn On Halloween the Lady Bruins all dressed up in f fashion chinn With head head- II bands spandex pants and colorful sox the team looked like the cast from Brewster But the players were not wearing wearing wear wear- ing this at some halloween halloween halloween hal- hal loween party but rather the practice itself on the court this year Its been pretty tough just because I think I r would like to be on the court It said Kerby who is a freshman But that's alright everything everything everything every every- thing happens for a reason It head coach Shay Clemensen thinks that not being able to play everybody is the toughest part of her job I take it personally when kids dont don't play said Clemensen because I know they go home and stress about it A year ago Kerby was an All State player at Fruitland High School in Fruitland ID 10 So far this season Kerby has only appeared in 43 out of a possible games That is the second lowest on the team Being the tallest on the team at 6 2 Kerby's size could really help the Lady Bruins Bruin's immense immense- ly But a shoulder problem which Kerby will need to have surgery on after the season season season sea sea- son has limited her production production tion on the court Wilcox on the other hand has not been injured but has only seen action in a team low 16 games That is a far cry from her days at Mountain Crest High School in Petersboro UT where she was a All State player This is a new position for Cali and Kylee Clemensen said both been stars before The demands of being a student-athlete student in college can be overwhelming Each day the team goes through a grueling grueling grueling gru gru- eling three-hour three practice and the team constantly has to take long road trips to play away games And it is not out of the ordinary for a player play play- er to feel like their rewards are not outweighing their efforts when they do not play Its a very tricky thing I Itry Itry Itry try to keep them motivated and keep them encouraged so that dont don't they get aged Clemensen said sam Because another thing that can happen is when kids get discouraged they stop putting in the effort and that affects the team as a whole But despite the lack of playing time both women have maintained a good atti atti- atti- atti tude That is why I am really impressed with those two girls because they have done donea a really good job of staying positive I 1 know their both frustrated Clemensen saidI saidI saidI said I have gotten frustrated but I 1 never thought of quit quit- ting said Kerby Im not a quitter Wilcox states that she was expecting to not play much for her freshman season I knew coming in that I wouldn't get much time Wilcox said You can only have one setter Im I'm fine with it I just keep trying to do my best everyday It is that attitude that has Clemensen optimistic about the two players' players futures with the Bruins Clemensen said she has seen improvement with both players Aside from getting healthy u Clemensen Clemensen believes OC UC VC S hC Kerby UY needs to be more confident and aggressive In Wilcox's case Clemensen thinks that she must improve her deci deci- sion-making sion skills as well as asher asher asher her footwork Earlier in the season Wilcox came up big bigin bigin bigin in a few games when the team was low on players due to injuries Clemensen believes their time will comeI comeI comer come I r wouldn't have them on the team in the first place if I didn't think they had skills said Clemensen and its it's just justa a hard situation I. I r r j iI r I Leomil looks ks I to the future f Fabiana Leomil who was an integral part of the Bruins' Bruins success last season season season sea sea- son is forced to sit out this year Junior College officials officials officials have stripped Leomil of her eligibility because of questions about being compensated for her services services services ser ser- vices while playing for a club team in Brazil Currently Leomil is trying trying trying try try- ing to transfer to a year 4 institution The possibility that she will land a Division I j scholarship is highly unlikely since she is in her fifth year of ty Leomil had only played one year of Volleyball at or anywhere but she attended college in Brazil Once you start college college college col col- col- col lege Division I schools start your eligibility clock 5 years Although Coach Clemensen is looking at atthe atthe atthe the possibility of Leomil playing Division II the most likely option is for her to play at an NAIA school If she does that NAIA Im I'm only looking at the very best said Clemensen and right now she has a chance to go to the team that will probably win the National Championship this year |
