Show Two hours of tonk N NL L Thi Arts Reporter Tired of going to the movies or simply driving ving around looking for entertainment The local Grand Theatre offers I an evening of great story storytelling storytelling telling interactive fun live music and quality performances in Always Patsy Cline at an affordable price Brought back by popular demand Always no Patsy Cline runs September 3 The only props were two tables four chairs and anda a microphone Though a small production with witha a woman two-woman cast and six-person six band the play was exceptional and fun portraying a lesser known but very memorable part of Clines Cline's life The story focuses on the everlasting friendship between Cline and possibly her biggest fan Louise Seger a housewife and single mother from Texas Upon first hearing Pasty singing on TV Seger requests her songs be played on the radio every day When they finally meet the two become fast friends Seger invites Cline home for bacon and eggs which Patsy readily accepts The two write letters to each other for years until Patsy's death in 1963 Local favorite Erica Hansen plays Patsy capturing the audience immediately with her voice When Hansen last played the role of Patsy Cline she was named Performer of the Year along with costar costar costar co- co star Toni Byrd who plays Louise Seger Applause preceded and followed every song including obvious crowd favorites like I go Walkin and I Fall to Pieces Hansens Hansen's renditions ranged from soft controlled ballads to paced fast-paced catchy tonk honk rhythms to big powerful songs worthy of anthems Though most of the play is music Byrd provides comic dialogue and humor dancing and clapping along to the music During most songs she would come off the stage and pull people from the audience to dance with before paring them up with their spouse or partner Ill sing the lines then you sing along at the chorus we want you to get your moneys money's worth Byrd announced cheerfully to the audience who enthusiastically complied During other songs every audience member clapped to the beat and didn't i hesitate to shout out a Yeehaw Yeehaw Yeehaw Yee haw The Thc music was superb the thc vocals beautiful and the acting spot With three television screens in black and white displaying Hansen as she sang the plays play's an authentic reflection of a past generation The closing song was met with a standing ovation and thunderous applause which only stopped when Hansen sang two more Cline hits In their final bows the women beamed smiling gratefully at the audiences audience's rancorous cheers Please tell all your friends your family anyone and everyone to come and see us We appreciate you coming out Byrd called to the crowd Now as for me Byrd said putting an arm ann around Hansen Im going to take my friend home for some bacon and eggs Come see Always Patsy Cline at The Grand Theatre located on the South City Campus at 1575 South State Street Salt Lake City UT Student tickets range from only 9 59 For more information on schedules upcoming events and ticket prices and discounts call at or mail e-mail at tickets the |
