February 10 2009 at PM at the Grand Theatre located at Salt Lake Community College South City Campus 1575 South State Street Salt Lake City As the conclusion of the 3rd annual Vocal Jazz Festival this special Valentines Valentine's day concert is sure to set the stage for the most memorable Valentines Valentine's Day yet The concert will feature Darmon Meader founder musical director chief arranger and vocalist with Grammy winning award-winning group New York Voices Former member of the PM Singers Michele Weir will also be featured on the show Weir is a current UCLA Jazz Faculty member and a prolific arranger with dozens of published 1 arrangements to her credit 6 Miles Ahead touts the talents of Utah's leading y jazz vocalists and is certain i to dazzle the audience e A with their ensemble j performances of traditional and contemporary jazz Salt City Jazz the premiere jazz choir at will open the night The program will also feature members of BYUs BYU's Faculty Jazz Ensemble Up Lars and Jay Lawrence with Steve Keen as well as student performers from the days day's festival Darmon Meader Recognized in both the jazz vocal and instrumental world Darmon is s a distinguished vocalist arranger and saxophonist He has achieved rapid international recognition as the founder musical director chief arranger composer producer saxophonist and vocalist with New York Voices As a member of f New York Voices he has released four albums on i the Records label Darmon has performed andor andor and or re recorded with a variety f of artists including Ray Brown George Benson Bobby McFerrin Don i Nancy Wilson i Ann Hampton Callaway r Patti Austin Jon Hendricks j Jim Hall Paquito and the Count Basie Basic Orchestra He has toured internationally performing at such renowned venues as Carnegie Hall Montreux Jazz Festival North Sea Jazz Festival Montreal Jazz Festival and the Blue Note Jazz Clubs in New York and Japan Currently Darmon is in the studio completing a long aw awaited solo CD which will be available in early 2006 In addition to Darmon's continuing New NewYork NewYork NewYork York Voices touring and recording commitments he is increasingly busy as a sideman university clinician and studio musician When not involved with music Darmon likes to escape from New York through a variety of outdoor activities including biking skiing camping and kayaking Michele Weir Michele has earned international recognition through a diverse set of talents as arranger teacher singer and pianist With dozens of published vocal arrangements to her credit plus works for big band a and orchestra Michele has 1 launched her own online f publishing company Professional c ensembles performing her A work include New York 1 Voices Pact M-Pact Beachfront 1 Property Chanticleer Voice Trek the Boston Pops and 1 the Buffalo Cincinnati and Pacific Symphonies Micheles Michele's music has been featured on the Shari Lewis TV show Disney's Sing- Sing along CD and the Holland America Cruise line A former member of the nominated Grammy-nominated vocal group The PM Singers Michele frequently performs as featured guest vocalist at various jazz festivals As a pianist she has toured extensively with witha a variety of artists including singer Bobby Vinton In her role as Music Supervisor for the Dream Works film Prince of Egypt she journeyed through Europe and Asia overseeing music production for the films film's foreign language dubs Her solo CD with jazz guitarist Bruce Forman is titled The Sound Of Music Michele is one of the leading figures in vocal jazz education today Currently serving on the faculty of UCLA Michele has previously taught Long Beach and the Phil Mattson School Highly respected as a teacher and clinician her work has taken her to more than 22 countries around the globe Recent notable presentations include the World Choral Symposium the Conference and the ACDA National Conference Micheles Michele's educational CD book sets Vocal Improvisation and Jazz Singers Singer's are available worldwide Her new CD book Set Jazz Piano Handbook Alfred Pubs was released in January 2008 Michele is a member of SAG ASCAP and NARAS Molded in the tradition of other great vocal groups such as Manhattan Transfer and New York Voices 6 Miles Ahead touts the talents of the Wasatch Fronts Front's leading jazz vocalists including former director of the BYU Jazz Voices and past i musical director of Vocal 1 Point Within months of its creation 6 Miles Ahead i received a first place finish in the vocal jazz combo open division at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Later that same year they appeared at the Western Regional Conference Their debut CD Out of the Blue was released in 2005 A recent addition to the Northwest on Tour Roster the group has performed and conducted solo and ensemble singing clinics ai at such venues as The Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival Jazz in the Canyon The Crescent Jazz Festival and The Uinta County Concert Series among others They have performed alongside jazz such jazz greats as Joe Beck Matt Wilson Vilson Darmon Dannon Meader Michele Weir Brandon Fields Kirby Shaw and Lionel Cordew Box
