Show Chesney for fans only Scot Contributing Writer Theres There's nothing worse than running out to buy your favorite artists artist's new release and its it's not even close to what you expected If youre you're a Kenny Chesney fan that wants to hear songs about tractors and country life or plans on doing a little two stepping when you pop in his latest CD Lucky Old Sun youre you're out of luck Instead youre you're going to hear songs about boats fishermen and the key to a thatched roof hut but hidden inside a conch shell The inspiration for his latest work can be found in the liner notes' notes first sentence oceans and the sun moving across the sky he writes It is a whole other way of life and a whole other way to live Out of 11 tracks only two have any significant I tempo the reggae inspired t Everybody Wants to Go Gol Heaven with Bob Marl Marleys Marley's eys ey's l old band The Wailers Waiters an and d t. t I t the steel drum filled Ten with a Two aI Last night I 1 came in at two with a ten but at ten tenI I 1 woke up with a two Chesney sings Its It's a fun song and a perfect example of how he can weave an island feel into his music but still sound country Unfortunately it itis itis itis is also the highlight of the whole CD The rest of the tracks have havea a very easy listening sound perfect for falling faIling asleep in a hammock but not for cranking up and singing along If it wasn't for his distinguishable voice they could easily be played on ona ona ona a soft rock radio station You'll hear a lot of acoustic guitar as if he invited you over to his beach house on a Sunday night to play some reflective songs while sitting in his Adirondack chair If you can get past the slow tempo there are area a couple of other songs that are worth at least checking out on The Life and a duet with Willie Nelson called That C 0 D Lucky Old Sun Dave Mathews fans might also want to check out his duet with Chesney called Im Alive All in all theres there's really not much that's country on this CD These are songs he wanted to sing with little thought for his fans and the music that got him where he is today If you just like his songs you hear on the radio you probably wont won't like his newest release On the other hand if youre you're a hard-core hard Chesney fan that liked Be as You Are Songs from an anOld anOld anOld Old Blue Chair you'll probably like this one too His fans are very loyal and its it's that relationship that allowed him to do another side project like this even if it only sells one million copies vs four to five million for his other reI releases cases Though this CD might not be what his fans are expecting they seem to love any music he plays even if it doesn't fit neatly into the country genre V |
