Show i Squeaky-clean Squeaky entertains Salt Lake Tanner Guzy t I Contributing Writer I J On June 27 and 28 i Jerry appeared at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City performing for his 2008 standup comedy tour According to Erin Finney from Art both shows were entirely sold out Ticket prices were 75 dollars and sold out within a f. f few da s it it H vie J Y y k The show began with i The Opening Act who i has performed on late night shows hosted by Leno Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel He performed for about twenty minutes and had a commanding stage presence The audience laughed along and identified with many jokes about marriage and the fear of becoming your parents was next and was welcomed in by a standing ovation before he even said saida a word He seemed to take a few minutes to warm warns up and told a few jokes that fell without a response from the crowd For the first ten minutes of bit I thought The Opening Act was funnier said Jason Eakins one of the audience members He quickly recovered and kept the audience laughing It seemed that as soon as the audience was catching its collective breath from froma a fl joke ev every ry G ner was ast I 5 1 W I gr 1 I i pm p Photo o courtesy of roaring again as a result of some observation about the inconsistencies or stupidities of modem society His routine consisted of bits including observations on the similarities between words like sucks and great Youre walking down the sidewalk with a brand new ice cream cone and it drops Youre You're thinking this sucks What do you say Oh great He later moved on to the inability for single people to understand those that are married and vice versa our modern dependence on our cell phones his observations about his own children and how difficult it is to be a father and husband and finished off with how inhumane and acoustically stupid a public bathroom is They call it a stall and your workers co-workers that come comein comein comein in recognize your shoes and the deflated pant legs su surrounding o H 1 qeD n the floor Its It's humiliating They might as well just finish the stall treatment and have me hang my head over the front like a horse The beauty of humor is his ability to point out the ironic and often senseless things that happen in the lives of the average American He also keeps his bits clean and inoffensive The audience at Hall covered all races sexes and classes but all were able to identify with his observations and appreciate his humor He left to another standing ovation after an hour and a half of performing The ovation lasted a few minutes and he came back on stage to todo todo todo do a question and answer session with the audience There were no limitations to the questions that could be asked but the majority centered on his famous sitcom including numerous demands to repeat the line Hello ym Ne |
