Show Presidents President's Art Show goes bigger downtown Lisa Tobias Contributing Writer I With over 1 00 p pieces of artwork ranging from oil paintings to tripods by artists across the state of Utah the Presidents President's Art Show is a cant can't miss The Presidents President's Art Show is an annual juried exhibition open to the public this year from Feb 22 to March 8 There were over entries entered but a qualified judging committee narrowed them down by a rating scale The pieces with the highest rate were chosen to be apart of this show I All art entries are from Utah residents ranging from amateur to professional artists including students staff and faculty of An arti artist t was washable a able to submit two pieces of work not limited to the medium The Best of Show winner received 1000 A reception and awards ceremony opened the Presidents President's Art Show on Thursday Feb 21 By invitation only over guests of the artists the Presidents President's Cabinet and other VPs VP's drank wine ate beef kabobs and talked as they gazed at the artwork presented on the walls Voting was also taken place by judges and the company choosing their favorite composition The judges for Best of Show and Medium Awards were Rick Hansen and Tom Howard Tom Howard received his Masters of Fine Arts from Brigham Young University after transferring from in commercial art and graphic design He is currently a member of the faculty Hansen is Gallery Director of the Palmers Gallery of Fine Art in Salt Lake and works as an artist President Cynthia Bioteau was actively involved in planning this art show and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Museum eum of Utah Arts and History She was very pleased by the results of the show Laughing Ladies by Emerette Atzet won Presidents President's Choice as well as Purchase Award The photograph titled won Peoples People's Choice Award by Anders Rodriguez This is the third year this art show has been held in downtown Art Show Continued on I Presidents President's Art Show Continued from A Al 1 Salt Lake Lynne Marie Judd event coordinator for the president was very satisfied at the turn out of people that came to this reception at a new location The first year was held at atthe atthe atthe the Museum of Utah Arts and History in 2006 and was quite successful According to Gordon Storrs Art Committee Chair the show was very beneficial to both the community and the college The location downtown made it possible for the exhibit to be seen by more people than ever before Before moving the location downtown the Presidents President's Show was held on campus five years previous The Presidents President's Art Show I is located at the Library Square Center located next to the station on South and East across the Salt Lake City Main Library The exhibition hours are 11 am a.m. to 7 pm p.m. Monday through Friday 11 am a.m. to 5 pm p.m. Saturday and closed on Sundays If youre you're interested in volunteering contact Kathy Hurd at I |
