Show M B B August Rush moves audience with emotion Stacie Peart Online Onlin Editor August Rush is the tale of an year old orphaned musical genius who longs for his parents to find him The films film's excellent acting whimsical narrative and incredible cinematography takes the audience for a ride through a fairytale-esque fairytale story Freddie Highmore captivates the viewer as he plays the young musical ing nue with an engaging outlook on life as he strongly believes that his parents will one day find him through his music Highmore is strongly fitting the mold of an exceptional young actor as he not only takes on parts in highly publicized roles such as Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate Factor Factory but he also takes on difficult roles that stretch his ability August Rush and his young character Peter in Finding have enabled Highmore to showcase his talent in emotional roles that could easily become trite in the hands of ofa a different actor August Rush had other obstacles for the year old Brit as ashe ashe ashe he not only had to ditch his accent to play an American boy He also had to learn to play or at least look like he could play numerous instruments Supporting the story of August Rush were the adult characters I Keri Keni Russell and Jonathon Rhys Meyers portray Rushs Rush's slightly peculiar r parents Louis and Lyla In good fairy fairytale tale fashion they fallin fall fallin fallin in love and have a magical night together only to be pulled away by Lylas Lyla's controlling father Split apart they try to go on with their lives but never seem to be able to especially when Lyla discovers she's pregnant Her father urges her to give the child up for adoption and when Lyla refuses he takes matters into his own hands after she's in a car accident Believing that her baby died Lyla tries to move on with her life but eventually gives up and avoids playing music Louis a struggling musician in a band cant can't focus because he cant can't get Lyla out of his mind mind and he too leaves music behind for a business career in California One character that is a notable find for director Kirsten Sher Sheridan dan was Jamia Simone Nash Playing Hope the little girl who finds August and introduces him to the local parish pasteur Williamson Forrest Gump Nash's adorable personality resonates well on screen and brings laughter to a avery avery avery very dramatic film The endearing story floats between past and present allowing the audience to discover each character and how they arrived at their present lives Its dreamlike dreamlike dreamlike dream dream- like narrative is well told through the eyes of a child and although it doesn't go deep into the history of any of the characters it remains true to the musical theme of the film as August hears music differently and believes that it can bring people together The beginning of the film immediately gives the audience a taste of what they are in for as the cinematographer expertly frames Highmore in a large wheat field As the opening narrative begins we see that August sees life differently and is always finding music musie in things around him As the wind blows the wheat in every direction he conducts the symphony of music he hears it creating it-creating and establishes his musical ability August Rush could easily slip into the chick flick category with the love story and search for forthe forthe forthe the fairy fairytale tale ending but it t should not be overlooked The films film's themes of music being lost and having strong beliefs are a huge pull The darker themes of child labor and foster care are briefly touched on but do not make the viewer seem as i they f are being force fed propaganda The film is also family friendly for those looking to escape the leftover turkey at home for an entertaining couple of hours during the Thanksgiving weekend but II II III I n. n Jb I y AUGUST RUSH RUSHI vv I t rt IH lC II CH f AT n Mil 1111 1111 SO SOl SOI I t keep in mind that some of the themes w will Il probably be lost on younger children Aug August st Rush is rated PG |
