Show Sometimes youve you've got gotto to keep it local Heather Golden Senior Editor I r met a rad guy named Nicholas last year through his metal band bandon on a short time before my first semester at He invited me meto meto meto to check out the vocalist auditions his band was holding so I called my friend friend and I begged her to togo togo togo go with me she agreed but made me listen to The orrs on the way My friend and I showed up mere minutes before the auditions were over but afterwards Nick introduced himself and showed us into their practice room which was more or less the creepiest basement ever The rest of the band was ready to play and right after I heard the first few licks of a song they called Burned my heart jumped in my throat and I felt like until my brain was like O. Jell-O. I had a newfound love for local music That band was the 1 twig and match starting the fire of my local band ban binge At first I was simply infatuated with Nicks Nick's band but I started checking out other local metal like Clifton and andI I Am the Ocean hey they're metal to me for a awhile awhile awhile while after that Winter of last year Nick invited me to what I Inow Inow Inow now like to call a hippie convention when I tell the story His friend Chaz was playing a show at Kilby Court All bands and musicians who were playing were locals so I decided it'd be a good time and went along I wont won't mention the only other performance we stayed for it was a sight to sec see but was great His entire set was beautiful despite his then I hardly believed what I heard from his guitar was real realand realand realand and I felt it was a whole different side of music Id I'd never seen I was happy not to mention brave to have gone and experienced such a diverse genre and culture of music When my taste for metal and hippie music ran out I got back baek into The who Id I'd seen put on an amazing performance at the Big Ass Show last year Needless to say after their tI set I bought their album Goodnight and Have Pleasant Tomorrow and had all four adorable band mates sign it yeah Ima 1 Im I'm Ima m ma a dork Both clever and twisted that album is an excellent buy These days Im I'm heavy into I saw them play at this years year's Warped Tour after getting to chat with them for a few weeks on They arc absolutely spectacular The rock-pop rock songs which remind me a little of Dashboard Confessional at times because of Patrick Crandal's voice are incredible creates the perfect blend of bass Crandall guitar Keith Michelson and drums Randall Topper and can only improve from here recently adding new guitarist Bryan Edwards from Clifton Four hot guys and even hotter music musie are just what a girl could ask for Without Nick shedding so much light on local music for me I probably wouldn't have been nearly as strong in supporting it or the bands that Ive I've grown to love To him and to the local bands that have kept me singing and thank you Want Vant a taste of these bands Hit up The Chaz 1411 n j u 1 H jit 1 |
