Show z accident near Redwood L 1 I 4 r rL y L r 3 Photo by Rob nob On April 15 an accident on Redwood Road in which a car was hit and reportedly rolled twice Jeffrey Wall Campus Editor A bookstore employee narrowly escaped a rollover accident while attempting to cross Redwood Road as she walked to work Thursday April 15 The accident occurred around 8 am a.m. at the intersection 0 of Conifer fer Way and Redwood Road the south entrance to Redwood campus Judy Pettit a bookstore employee for the thelast thelast thelast last 18 years was waiting for the light to change before crossing Redwood with another couple that had just gotten of off the busI busI busI bus I walk to work everyday because I 1 live in ina a subdivision just east of J i r 7 J 1 i campus said Pettit The accident occurred when a male driver heading north on Redwood Road ran the red light crashing into a car driven by a woman attempting to turn left out of the college The collision sent the mans man's car into a roll His car rolled two or three times and ended up upon upon upon on the passenger r side said Pettit Pettit said the young man I had to kick open a door in order to exit his vehicle and that he was uninjured The woman driving the other car had injuries that were treated in an ambulance atthe atthe at atthe the scene Captain Bob Kladianos of Unified Fire responded to the accident He said both drivers were v 14 r t-ll t t d' d 1 i Ji J i wearing their seatbelts and that the injuries resulting from the accident didn't require either driver to go goto goto goto to the hospital It was way scary Pettit said It happened so fast we didn't have time to jump out of the way She added that after the accident she and the couple were still standing in the same spot they had been standing in before the accident Pettit said that if they hadn't been waiting for forthe forthe forthe the car turning north to clear the intersection she and the others would have begun to cross Redwood Road putting them directly in the path of the car that ran the red light This wasn't the first time Pettit has had a close 0 I f 1 t r-t t ljJ r 1 call crossing Redwood Road at that intersection Two weeks ago she called the police to report almost being hit in the same I location Recounting the events of the morning two weeks ago Pettit said a car had passed right in front of them missing them by only six or seven inches We had just stepped off the curb said Pettit We were ten feet into the road on our way across and a acar acar acar car ran the light Kladianos warned that Redwood Road is dangerous dangerous' during all times of the day and that the intersection at South is one if the worst in Red Redwood r Continued on page 4 f y- y Jf f r Accident on Redwood Continued from page 1 the state He Hc said students really need to pay attention to the traffic lights along Redwood Road to avoid the same result as Thursdays Thursday's accident He also discouraged students from jaywalking across Redwood Road With the fire station just opposite from campus he said he sees students do doit it all the time And every once in a while there is one student that doesn't make it to the other side It might seem inconvenient to wait at a crosswalk but the chances of crossing the street safely are higher is currently reviewing plans that will put an additional traffic light in front of the fire station on Redwood The light will aid Unified Fire when entering traffic during their responses Taylorsville Police responded to the accident on Thursday morning but didn't return phone calls to tomake tomake tomake make a statement regarding the accident J r |
