Show 20 or bust Jeffrey Wall Campus Editor has adopted a new Academic Standards Policy targeted at helping students maintain the required grades for graduation This new policy focuses on the degree seeking student who is unable to maintain a term point grade-point average and or a cumulative of 20 or higher The policy is based on intrusive advising that assist students in maintaining a positive attitude towards their academic studies while pr providing viding the support services services that will encourage their success I want to make sure students know that there are people here to help said Dona Dittman Bilyeu-Dittman career Academic Advisor who is also als heading up this new policy The college has always had an academic standard in place This new policy is ismore ismore ismore more defined and nd is better suited to help students overcome their academic challenges Im not here to punish any body said Bilyeu- Bilyeu Dittman I want to get students a tutor or talk to them about taking fewer credits There are five levels that define the students student's standing outlined in the new policy The first will affect any student whose term OPA falls below 20 while their cumulative remains at 20 or higher These students will receive an email e- e email email mail notifying them that they are on Academic Notification The mail e-mail will also notify the student of the available resources at the college to help them improve their grades The second level will affect students that haven't yet accumulated more than 14 credit hours at the college If their and cumulative falls below 20 they will be placed on Academic Alert The third is for students that have accumulated more than 15 credit hours and fail to carry the minimum term tenn and cumulative of 20 These students will be oe placed on Academic 0 Warning on Students that are are on academic warning will have a registration hold placed on their record and will no be able to register until they have met with an advisor The forth is Conditional Enrollment this occurs after the students student's cumulative falls below 20 for forthe forthe forthe the second time A hold will again be placed on registration and in-depth in advising will be required PA Continued on page 2 policy standard Continued from page 1 t to help identify how the student student-ca Improve their s studies before they will be allowed to continue at the c college level I Probation This will occur A when the students student's i and cumulative falls l below 20 for the third time i A registration hold willbe will willbe willbe I be placed on the students i records and will not be lifted until the student completes i an appeal process N Student will remain at I their current I level vel as long longas as their their theu cumulative remains below 20 All students that are are placed fall fall- into o o e a of i these levels will re receive e ean an mail e-mail notifying them i of their academic standing The mail e-mail will also advise the student of the available resources at the college to help them improve their r grades Students that raise their academic p performance back to the institutions institution's standards will have their status returned to good The policy also allows t for r th the stUd students current academic standing to be posted posted online online on their unofficial unofficial un un- un official transcript The posting will allow the student to monitor their progress but will not be included on their official transcript Academic and Career Advising department provides ongoing academic and career advising This policy is a tool fool used to help students that demonstrate academic difficulties Students Students that may be experiencing difficulties should work with an advisor to avoid academic jeopardy Advising offices are located at the Redwood South City Sandy and J om Jord Jordan Campuses appointments are appointments re not necessary |
