Show Students express themes elves at Folio olio F reading Zachary Whitney Campus Reporter As the fall semester comes to a close students anxiously await the end For some students however the end encl of the semester brings the beginning and debut of a work months in the making Folio the student- student produced literary magazine became available to the public with a debut reading on Tuesday Nov 29 Students faculty and community members gathered in the atrium of the Science Building on the Redwood Campus to hear submissions read by their creators Im not much of a areader areader areader reader said student Clint Johnson But I think it went well Johnson read his essay entitled Truth in The Age of Terror Like many of the Folio submissions Johnsons Johnson's work was an assignment for one of his classes He submitted the essay to Folio because he felt it dealt with witha a topic that the community needed to be informed about Roughly 30 people attended the reading that displayed some some of f the original art pieces featured in the magazine Since Folio is in black and white it was nice to see sec seethe seethe the picture in color said Kori Kod Flores design editor for this semesters semester's edition of Folio Flores was referring to the photograph W Worlds t Collide taken by Kristie Jorgenson Jorgenson was in attendance and offered a deeper explanation regarding her inspiration forthe for forthe forthe the photograph Jorgenson said the photo was taken atthe at atthe atthe the Salt Lake Arts Festival The way the colors were produced by a tent that was set up touched her She said that she just had to capture it in a picture Similar explanations were made by writers The insight helped many students understand more fully the meaning behind many of the submissions By providing an opportunity for writers to read their submitted works Folio Continued on page 7 of Fb 4 l J I ILl Ll I- I p i t w 5 s r. r Fi k iI iIO Y c i a o 0 00 Image courtesy of or Folio Literary Magazine This semesters semester's Folio is called Divinity Folio is a student run literary magazine i Folio read to the public Continued from page 1 editors allowed the creators to share those works with the emotion they felt while writing the poems and stories Student Brian Gray read his poem Its a Fix more quickly than some might The added emphasis gave those in attendance a better view of his vision Also in attendance was Clint Gardner coordinator of the Student Writing Center Gardner said he remembers when the literary magazine was first created It started out with just essays and prose that lasted for two years said Gardner At that point Globe Media became involved and the literary magazine broadened its scope to include the art medium as well Student Ryan Hollist said he is grateful for the chance to express himself through Folio Ive felt really inspired to write for the last couple of years That's the bug that really bit me Hollist has been featured in the past two editions of Folio and said he plans on submitting more work for the spring edition Cynthia White who submitted a poem called Red Bird said she appreciated the reading and is looking forward to submitting next semester The fall reading was conducted by Literary Editor Amy Snyder who brought the reading to a close with thanks to all who'd contributed and helped in the making of the magazine including staff and editors |
