Show Difference Between Night and Day Stacie Peart Staff Writer One thing that brings potential students to Salt Lake Community College there there are classes for all types of scholars But many students believe that the idea of getting the same education at different times of day is fiction The concept of equality between night hind and day classes isn't bad a good a-good thing It maybe preference because some students feel that taking day classes gives them the advantage Others feel that by attending attending attend attend- attending ing night classes they receive a better education As a place for learning tries to create an atmosphere to serve all of those who attend the school We are a community college which means that were we're trying to meet the needs or of the community members said John McCormick Dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences McCormick said that because has a much more diverse student body than other area schools the administration tries to have classes available from the early morning until late at night administration tries to accommodate all of the diverse students that I attend the college with the class schedule of each semester However some students believe that there are some differences in the classes taught during the day versus those taught at night John Bolinder a student who has taken classes both bothin in the day and at night feels that his best classes are those he has taken at night Bolinder said that his night instructors are also working in the field they teach and know mation is actually applicable ble to the real wore world He said that many times he has gone to night class and the instructor will give a lecture lecture lecture lec lec- ture or a hand out that he can take into work and apply in his career Bolinder and other night students find that night classes have more of a real world application Still others find that night classes class class- es dont don't offer the variety they need to graduate and get their degree There are not as man many manx specific classes available Travis Foxley said He believes that only the basic classes such as Math 10 1010 I 0 or English 1010 are available available available avail avail- able for students taking classes at night Special classes are sometimes taught only one time during the semester which can become cumbersome or impossible for students who work full time Foxley also believes that sometimes school night-school instructors have less structure structure structure ture to their classes A more relaxed atmosphere can be viewed as good or bad depending on how students learn or discipline them them- sel selves ves According to McCormick night classes usually have a different student student student stu stu- dent body At night classes students may be time full-time students who just dust happen to enroll in a class at night There There- are students l who york work f II tir e while attending classes cl time apart or those who just take a class because they are interested interested interested inter inter- ested in the subject and not in getting a degree Convenience and atmosphere atmosphere atmosphere atmos atmos- phere might lead students to night classes I would rather take night classes because they're more fun Lisa Lee said The teachers teach teach- ers are more relaxed and people are likely to be more open during the discusSIOns discussions discus discus- Because basing hasing a variety of scholars attending attending attending attend attend- ing classes the faculty is aware that the school needs to accommodate the differences differences differences differ differ- to suit those who attend the college Students can find out what type of class is is best for them by b trying trying try try- ing out different instructors and class times The night class experience ence may differ from the day class experience but many students prefer this variety of college |
