U UT T t I I f 1 V 1 s rf I I I VIOLENCE I Kathy Contributing Writer YWCAs YWCA's Week Without Violence Campaign will begin October 25 19 2003 It will be a timely pro-active pro agenda of awareness discussion and solutions solutions solutions addressing violence and messages of violence we are bombarded with daily Besides the war children in our neighborhoods are accidentally killing each other with hand guns News of domestic assault and hate crimes often leave us with a feeling of sympathy and helplessness This week long agenda will provide direction Each day there will be a featured featured featured fea fea- fea- fea topic that the events have been planned around Day of Remembrance Confronting Violence Protecting Our Making Children Our Schools Safer Eliminating Hate Crimes Violence Against Women Preventing Animal Abuse and Replacing Violence with Sports Recreation and Fun are on the agenda Of particular interest will be the theart theart theart art work created by young children children children chil chil- dren who have been exposed to family violence This art work will be displayed at Redwood Campus in the Library Tuesday October The week begins Sunday October at pm p.m. at the Capital Rotunda with the Dedication of the Wall of 1 I Remembrance and Candlelight Vigil This is an important event Participation may not bring about world peace but it will enlighten inspire and hopefully change peoples people's attitudes and beliefs It will provide methods for helping those in danger and it will be a catalyst to expand prevention efforts Last year the YWCA y provided services to more than women and children It is their mission to empower women and girls and eliminate racism A week without violence is something something something some some- thing we can all get involved wi with tho C r I J |
