I was flipping flip flip- flipping ping through five hundred channels channels chan chan- p nels of pure pure wasted time I happened happened happened hap hap- to fall upon an interesting Discovery Channel special entitled entitled entitled Evolution Realizing I was NOT in the middle of a misguided ed lucid dream I stopped and watched with great interest An unexpected personal debate followed Science is telling us our origin and place and ironically making few predictions predictions predictions pre pre- dictions for our future Any religion religion religion reli reli- gion you choose to believe will can give you a sense of history history history his his- tory as well but it seems to be bespeaking bespeaking bespeaking speaking pretty much only about the future So how is it that as a society we accept sciences discoveries that our planet is bil billions biT bil- lions of years old and also believe generally as a fundamentalist fundamentalist fundamentalist funda funda- mentalist Christian society that a Male Caucasian god created our universe only a few thousand years ago In other words how can we argue that having sex and anda a baby coming out is a miracle but eating a Happy Meal and having all the artificial excreta come out is somehow not This is a cultural line weve we've drawn b between tween m matter and spirit Many p people ople say with great cultural acceptance i that at the Internet is a miracle Did you notice that My spell spell-c spell checker ecker even made me put Internet in CAPS How can a technological entity be considered considered considered consid consid- ered a pronoun Is technology a miracle Is biology Just now we weare weare weare are in installing talling operated brain-operated prosthetics Now where do you draw the line Ask yourself How much science can one x fi a Caas tf Science will f give religion re 1 M T. T credit for t nothing o If i l 7 Y believe in before you cant can't possibly possibly possibly bly believe in any religion and I vice versa j jA jA A wise sage I recently spoke with speculated over this next next- point quite eloquently He said Whoever was stupid enough to discover fire was surely burned at atthe atthe atthe the stake by his own brothers This may mayor or may not be true but it seems par with countless historical historical historical his his- examples Think of Columbus discovering America Galileo with his telescope and of cour course e Socrates with the thea J a Humanism we all enjoy and employ t to a certain degree e. e All three worlds were previously unexplained by old millennia-old secular faiths until science e discovered i them How can any new truth such as the aforementioned aforementioned aforementioned afore afore- mentioned be absorbed as it was wasby wasby wasby by any and all religions that claim to know the eternal truth It seems as though whatever whatever whatever what- what ever religion will accept is only f relative to its own chronological era and obviously science will willI I gi give e religion credit for nothing I Ij 1 j think it is impossible to actually give full credit to either side We all mix and match in our own ways whether you like it or not Perhaps it is evolutions evolution's s s grandiose joke to have given our brains two opposing poles Maybe its it's Gods I think Ill I'll call it a blessing that will if we look close enough give us clues as to what we really are A And d now Ill I'll wittingly conclude that religion religion religion reli reli- gion and science both pay homage homage homage hom hom- age to Libra who ov over r the ages will has culturally balanced balance d C them both out nicely |
