Show Davis Continues as Theatre Director r Press Release After an exhaustive month-long month nationwide search a nine person search committee of veteran theater professionals and Salt Lake Community College officials did not find a replacement for retiring Pat Davis managing director of Utah's largest community theater Salt Lake Community College Grand Theatre According to Peter Maughan chair of the search committee committee committee com com- there were many talented people that applied but none with the track record of unique community theater creativity and business skills demanded by the position When the decision was made to close the search negotiations for Davis to remain for two additional years began Our discussions explored various possibilities and we were finally able to agree on a new contract that will insure the successful successful successful success success- ful continuation of the Grand Theatre in both the artistic and business areas After working in theater for most of my lifetime I was ready to retire says Davis Together with my husband husband husband hus hus- band the late Clif Davis Grand Theatre Set Designer we climbed the mountain and enjoyed every step of the way but following his death I felt it was time to find another moun moun- tain During the negotiations I realized realized realized real real- that offered still another challenge the new 1300 seat Alder Amphitheater located on our Redwood campus By the time negotiations negotiations negotiations were finished I had agreed to toan toan toan an appropriate two year contract and anda a new summer outdoor festival was wason wason wason on the planning board the Alder Amphitheater was recently completed and donated to Salt Lake Community College by Jack Alder of Alder Construction Considered to be a the state-of-the-art amphitheater facility the outdoor stage will become the centerpiece for foran foran foran an annual Gilbert and Sullivan Summer Festival to premier in July of 1997 Food courts green shows and other period activities will take place in the areas surrounding the amphitheater similar to those of the l Shakespearean Festivals and the Festival of the American West in Logan There are hundreds of talented people in our college and in this community capable of fine performances performances performances mances in quality high-quality productions says Davis this annual festival will offer an incredible performance and learning opportunity for everyone attending and should become a source of great pride for our community community community and for Salt Lake Community College Over 45 musical and theatrical productions have been presented since 1989 under the leadership of Pat and Clif Davis as together they created Grand Theatre Today season ticket subscriptions have reached an all time high for the 96 97 season which opened on September with The Sound of Music directed by Davis followed by byA byA byA A Christmas Carol Arsenic and Old Lace Sweet Charity Charit Anything Goes and Fiddler on the Roof |
