Show Students Will Lose if Quarters Become Semesters To the Editor Thank you for keeping us informed on the possibility of changing changing changing chang chang- ing from quarters to semesters Your article in the Jan 3 issue was most informative The Board is very selfish in even proposing this idea as it will be the individual student who will pay the price for these changes both in increased tuition to pay for administrative administrative administrative adminis adminis- costs and in getting a lesser- lesser quality education during the two years the teachers are worrying about changing curriculum All around its it's the student who will be the loser inthis in inthis inthis this equation It is extremely bad news for this night student At present I work both botha a full time and a part time job in order to make ends meet I 1 attend school because I am training to do something better so I no longer have to work two jobs I anticipate receiving receiving receiving ing my degree in 2 1 years while attending school all four quarters per year The quarter system is perfect for this because it means I can take more classes within a years year's time thus completing my degree faster A semester system would increase the number of years to complete a degree and get a better jobIn fact were it my decision to make I would cut the quarters quarter's down to 9 weeks instead of 11 Considering the quarter system works so well and arid only two Utah schools are not presently using it I propose that BYU and change their systems to match the rest of the state Lets Let's all plan on attending the session session session ses ses- sion on Jan 26 and show the Board we care about the decisions they make and how severely they impact each student Make sure you write your state senator also Im I'm sending a copy of this letter to mine Kathy L.
