Show I 1 I 4 1 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Colonel Discriminates During Her Speech at To the Editor As I sat through the speech by Colonel Margarethe about discrimination in America I became confused I listened as she explained how it was hard for her to recite the Pledge of Allegiance because she had a hard time believing believing believing ing it She explained discrimination of women blacks and gays and les les- les- les She got so upset at times while she was talking that she began to shake with anger Listening to all of this I had a hard time being convinced that she really believed or understood the message she was presenting First she preached against discrimination discrimination discrimination dis dis- dis- dis crimination and inequality and yet she discriminated by saying a few derogatory things about being in Utah Second her goal was to teach us tolerance of other peoples people's beliefs actions and opinions Yet when it was time for questions and answers she had no respect for the opinions of others about gays and lesbians in inthe inthe inthe the armed forces about sexual preference preference preference or anything that was contradictory contradictory contradictory contra contra- to her own beliefs and ions She did bring up some good points about there being discrimination tion in America against beliefs opinions race creed or religion But for her to have lived through such discrimination and yet discriminate herself is hard for me to believe Her points were valid her presentation presentation presentation presen presen- tation was good but her message was distorted by her own discrimination i of others C It is hard for me to believe that r. r was paid for her to come and say one thing and do another If I had e wanted to listen to people who say 1 one thing and do another I could have done it for free by turning on the television and hearing what the i politicians baseball owners or evangelists evangelists evangelists evan evan- have to say Corey Bullock x General Studies Major Jt |
