D Curtis Contributing Writer Great visuals do not a concert 3 make proved that point Wednesday May 10 at the Delta Center by delivering a visual feast that didn't quite satisfy their fans fan's hunger Touring in support of their latest album Promised Land the five- five some off kicked-off their show with a short sound effect of a fail fail- ing heart and then the crying of a newborn baby suggesting tion The tune was accompanied by two giant video monitors featuring singer Geoff Tate wandering through a desert wasteland The heart of the set started out with songs from Operation a complex album that tells a single story of an un underground underground under under- er- er ground political group drug and sex abuse and a little love story thrown in for good measure As they moved into the Promised Land material the show went downhill Their newest newest newest new new- est release is a fantastic album but the songs are a little slower and moody and didn't translate well into a live show Lady Jane an and d hD Disconnected Disconnected Discon i scon- scon left the audience looking at their watches instead of at the monitors or the stage This was a good concert with moments of greatness but in instead instead instead in- in stead of seeing live and spontaneous this was Quee n he stat static ic an and d re re- re- re If they cut down on technology and let themselves go goa a little more they would be among the very elite rock acts performing today |
