Show Men Take Two Over NIC Ricks By Andy Crow Sports Editor The Salt Lake Community College College College Col Col- lege improved their chances at a second second second sec sec- ond half conference title run with two hard fought home victories over both North Idaho College and Ricks College College College Col Col- lege this past weekend The Bruins beat North 90 75 in inthe inthe inthe the first of the weekends weekend's contests Friday night Salt Lake was led by Troy 27 points and 12 rebounds and Tim Erickson's 23 points and 11 rebounds The Bruins as a team North Idaho 44 to 31 Salt Lake also got a good game out of newly starting point guard Jermaine Jermaine Jermaine Jer- Jer maine Boyette The 6 2 point guard from Hammond IN tallied 13 points and dished out seven assists Carmie also helped in the cause by contributing eight points three rebounds and two assists while collectIng collecting collecting col col- col- col three steals North Idaho could never get anything anything anything any any- thing going offensively as they hit only 35 percent from the field North Idaho made 11 of 13 free throws for forthe forthe forthe the game but Salt Lake went to the theline theline theline line 30 times for the game and made 24 of them North Idaho was led by Johnny Goodman who paced NIC by scoring scoring scoring ing a team high 19 points grabbing six rebounds and handing out four assists What hurt North Idaho was not only the rebounding but their team three point shooting NIC shot 34 threes for the game and made 12 You know the old saying you live by the three and die by the three In the second game of the homes- homes tand Salt Lake took on Ricks Col Col- lege The Vikings from Rexburg ID had just knocked off nationally ranked Utah Valley the evening before their contest with the Bruins in overtime So coming in a little fatigued emotionally and physically maybe the Bruins and Vikings squared off to do battle The Bruins were again led by Erickson and Boyette The game was relatively sloppy in the 67 49 victory The first half was indicative of the sloppiness as it appeared neither team would reach the 30 point plateau But both teams did reach 30 points The second half was no better in terms of fundamentals but the intensity intensity intensity sity was evident between these two rivals The second half seemed to belong to Erickson Boyette and but all in three different intervals intervals intervals inter inter- vals of the hal half f. f Erickson bombed Salt Lake back into the g game me with a pair of big three pointers in a row to give the Bruins the lead at 38 From then on the Bruins were pretty much in control of the game The next part of the half belonged to Boyette as he showed why he is such an exciting player to watch handle handle handle han han- dle and pass the ball Boyette made numerous great crossover dribbles past Ricks defenders for easy or great to wide open Bru Bru- ins Many of Boyette's plays came off of good defensive play by the freshman then took over the last part of the game Even though the game was pretty much out of reach the 8 6 sophomore center from Granger took over on both the offensive and defensive defensive defensive sive ends of the floor The men are home this weekend to play Saturday at pm p.m. L Y r r c cv of v s. s r o- o or r t v 1 9 JI y- y O IR ti i t A S N Photo by Bertina Begay Tim Erickson 45 has been big this season for the Bruins Salt Lake is now 6 5 in conference play and 6 17 overall t. t d 4 i ti t i Fr J.
