Show Technology Fair Provides High Schools an Outlet By Jake Nelson Nelsons s Staff Writ Writer r For the fifth year in a row hosted its Technology Fair a place where high school and college students alike can learn about the paced fast-paced world of tomorrow Hundreds of Salt Lake area students students students stu stu- dents were invited from high schools to come came see the fair on its one day stand The fair showed students how the changes in technology will affect our lives in the future as well as its effect on industry and business There could not possibly be a fair without entertaining activities of some sort 1 Students seemed to line up for the wrestling activity It is not ja J you can ri wrestle restle with foot foot 1 tall remote control robots attempting to push them outside of a ten-foot ten circle Through this activity students were able to learn leam how top build robots and other problems dealing with electron electron- ics The high school students were also able to have their blood pressure checked by the health sciences divi divi- sion learn about new hairstyles from the cosmetology barbering department department department depart depart- ment competed in a nail-driving nail contest contest contest con con- test and sampled pastries from the chefs chef's apprenticeship program The fair was started to help high school and college students by highlighting highlighting highlighting high high- lighting the programs offered in the Applied Technology division The fair also hopes to eliminate the threat of ignorance to the powerful world of advancement Elwood the dean of the School of Technology said We feel that through exposure to applied technology students will be empowered empowered empowered ered to make better career choices that afford higher income opportunities a former high school schoolteacher teacher used t to bring his hj s students dents on a afield afield field trip to the college so they could learn leam about technical fi fields This aswell as aswell aswell well as several requests from faculty in high school and college instigated the decision to host this annual event We thought that it went very well We had a large number of students on campus we felt very good said 9 y fl r 6 l iY r f fir S r cyr sf 5 lA 4 1 r t r 1 i r f L' L j. j 1 irE V r r i f I ij Af M Photo Courtesy of Public Information Office Ronald Ash along with and high school students learned about wrestling at fifth annual Technology Fair held Sept 29 in the Quad |
