Show Farewell To Journalism Professor By James Darrar Contributing Writer On June 13 Communication and Writing Professor Roselyn Kirk will grade her students student's papers for forthe forthe forthe the final time Kirk has been helping students achieve their goals for the last 27 h re en c 0 jr J JU op pU win i V ii years as a high school schoolteacher schoolteacher schoolteacher teacher in the Granite School District before she came to the college in 1978 When she first came here to teach at what is isnow isnow isnow now it was then called Utah Technical College College College Col Col- lege and teaching concentrated concentrated concentrated concen concen- mostly on the trades with less emphasis placed on general education Those of us who taught General Education and always putting pUlling the needs of her students first Kirk will retire and good-bye good at the end of this say ter I know on the last day if anybody anybody anybody any any- body talks to me I will start crying crying crying cry cry- ing said KirkI Kirk I will really miss the students here Kirk said I 1 have always that she has been working on for the thelast thelast thelast last few years She also intends to write children stories with her grandchildren writing a separate book with each one of themI them I used to write childrens children's stories stories stories sto sto- sto- sto ries and had several published Kirk said She has plans to write a humor I z d' d p 1 i 4 J Photo By Jaren Wilke Wilkey Roselyn Kirk in her office in the TB Building I at that time were thought of or as unpopular stepchildren Kirk said loved the students because they are areso Loretta Walker and I helped get the s so open and willing to share their Communication Department lives with their professors going Though after this quarter s she e Kirk along with others helped will no longer walk the halls of the change the school into what it is college Kirk has no plans to slow today down She intends to concentrate Now after 27 years of teaching on her writing by finishing a book DOCK DOOK calleo O 0 YOU Want to Be in Politics a book about some of the things that happened to her in her political career She said she is looking forward to spending more time with her family but is isa a little nervous about being called retired With more time to devote to her writing and with her skill and devotion to the craft I 1 am sure in the future we will see her I books on the bookstore shelves Kirk is liked and respected by her fellow professors and students who have and have not taken classes class class- es from her Kirk is an understanding and caring teacher whose presence and dedication to teaching will be missed A |
