Show Disappointing Resurrection By Charles Barnard Movie Critic After the disappointing Alien 3 Fox tries to resurrect resurrect resurrect their Alien franchise with its fourth installment Alien Resurrection Set two hundred years after the lead character Ellen Ripley's Sigourney Weaver death at the end of Alien 3 the military is at it again By using blood samples from the deceased Ripley scientists clone her in an attempt to breed the aliens that she is a host to But this new cloned Ripley is not the Ripley that people are accustomed accustomed accustomed tomed to By sharing the alien DNA Ripley has been changed into some type of hybrid She now has the aliens alien's strength and acid blood as aswell aswell aswell well as a new found ferocity It does not take long before the aliens escape their captivity and are running around the ship killing everyone in sight Ripley and the crew of a space freighter have to fight their way off the science ship and try to reach the docked freighter and apparent safety Sound sort of familiar Well it is In the producers producer's attempt to bring new life back into the franchise they just turned Resurrection into a rehash of the original One thing to say about Resurrection it does not hold back backon on the gore factor While the other Alien movies have had their share of blood and guts this one surpasses it In parts I would even make a case that it surpasses the gore in Starship Troopers The scene where Ripley sees the failed mutations created by J sf r the scientists who cloned her were i quite disgusting This is definitely not one for little kids Weavers Weaver's portrayal of Ripley is i definitely different from the other Alien films Instead of the fearless alien kicking butt-kicking Ripley Weaver now plays a cold creepy Ripley that has been changed by the alien DNA This is the only new thing in this movie from the old ones and it really really really real real- ly works The rest of the cast were okay but not outstanding Winona Ryder i iwho who was a member of the space freighters freighter's crew did not really work as the mysterious Call The special effects in Resurrection were good The computerized computerized computerized com com- aliens really looked cool especially in the underwater scenes One big disappointment was the new alien that they introduced in the movie It does not look half as bad and foreboding as the original aliens For the most part I was disappointed disappointed disappointed pointed in Alien Resurrection I Iwas Iwas Iwas was hoping for something bigger and better than what I got While it was very similar to the first movie it was not as intense or scary It does not even come close to standing up to the second film which was the best one so far The special effects were good but the plot line was just too predictable If you are a fan of the original three you might want to check it out but I would much rather go back and rent the first two Alien movies |
