B Barron Barren Physical education enrollment at S CC is at an all time high offers a wide ide range of PE classes at economical prices One of the mo most t dJ diverse V r e PE cL classes is s. s Y Yoga og W WI I LR I tion taught by Tess Golata Physical conditioning is essential for good health and well being Most people tend to overlook PE as asa asa asa a viable alternative to poor health One group of people may think that PE is too demanding while others think that PE is childish and boring According to Golata yoga can offer a slow undemanding form of exercise exercise exercise exer exer- cise for one group while providing a challenge for the other Yoga has evolved from the type in which the human body is bent in every direction to the Hatha form that Golata teaches Hatha yoga places emphasis on stretching and the human body until it becomes flexible and more easily relaxed Golata said that each form of yoga is a way to reach the same end the only difference is the way you get there The major goal of yoga is to find yourself and to realize a greater self Gol Golata ta said that yoga is essentially a form of stress management She said that yoga is a wa way to feel at peace with yourself She added that one gains greater knowledge because of better concentration and increased self While most yoga classes offer yoga only as a physical discipline Golata said she also teaches a form of mental meditation While one form or the other may be good of itself the greatest benefits come to those who experience both physical with the mental Golata has a dance degree from the U of U and she did her graduate in exercise physiology and kinesthesia physiology She also has hasa a certificate in yoga Golata said that she is more than willing to teach yoga as long as students are willing to try She added that the administration has been very supportive However she would like to see another section added for beginning students Winter quarter will offer yoga i in I F I L s s k Tess less Golata Yoga Instructor two time slots PE 01 1 Yoga Relaxation held from 1230 pm p.m. to pm p.m. for beginning students and PE 01 In Intermediate Yoga held from am a.m. to am alT for advanced students Both classes will add increased education ex exercise and relaxation to the life of all aU p pants See the winter class schedule for more details |
