| Show A Lifetime of f Adventure r y 9 s r r s jf 2 Ii I i Li Photo By Dan Metcalf By fry Lisa Usa Keene orizon Horizon Feature Editor Ed Lile Horizon Photographer Photographer Photographer has had a lifetime of adventure serving his country in three wars Ed began his passion for photography before he was even out of high school He saw a demonstration of photography by a representative representative representative from the old Kodak Finishing Plant that was located located located lo lo- lo- lo on South and State Street He got interested in it and his mother gave him an anold anold anold old family box camera and he was on his way He then worked for Bill S Snippier Photography which t is s still located on Main Street He then worked for the Lug- Lug nell and Gill studio for a few years In 1942 Ed volunteered for the draft for World War II He volunteered so he would have a I chance to go into a field of his own choice choice- Ed was stationed in England with the Air Force H He was assigned to photo reconnaissance which means he was an aerial camera repair technician During the Korean War he was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina to the tactical reconnaissance team Then h he was an aerial photo interpretation specialist During the Viet Nam War Ed was involved with the airlift airlift airlift air air- lift command In comme commenting comment commenting comment comment- ing on the recent rash of Viet VietNam VietNam VietNam Nam movies he said Some are sensationalized but a few bring out what really hap hap- Some show only one phase to appeal to the public He still has contact with a lot of his buddies from the wars Ed has attended the University of Utah studying English layout design and photojournalism In 1954 he took a few classes at the Trade Tech including basic drawing and architectural drawing Then the college was at West High During this time Ed also attended the U of U at night In January Ed will be in his ninth year at He says hes he's a professional student In all the years hes he's been here he has always been involved with the school paper Hes He's seen the name of the paper change from T Tech d Topics to Points West to Horizon Ed comments Im Tm not afraid to attend college with the younger kids I dont don't hide behind anything for being as old as I am The only difference difference difference dif dif- dif dif- ference between me and the rest of the students is that I dont don't wear washed acid-washed jeans J. nt n |
