Show Mixed Feelings Over Student Evaluations I read with interest the articles on the faculty evaluations and the Internet Internet Internet Inter Inter- net and they both inspired separate responses First Ive I've got some mixed feelIngs feelings feelings feel feel- ings regarding the faculty On the one hand I agree with Ms when she says that they are evaluations and not The forms that I have filled out have no questions that would would help determine ne a p teachers teacher's style but are full of questions about the value of the class and the teachers teacher's ability They are evaluations evaluations evaluations and they should include From a students student's point of view however I dont don't want to lose the evaluation angle I have taken a lot of classes here and some of them have been excellent I get geta a lot of enjoyment out of bragging up the teachers that I feel deserve it On the other hand Ive I've taken classes that I could have taught better than the instructor with the degree Competence in a field docs does NOT imply competence as a teacher and frankly I resent spending my money to attend a class where I learn the material material material mate mate- rial better on my own Now if a teacher feels threatened by that maybe they sho should ld reevaluate ate their approach to teaching or look for another job Too often colleges forget that we the students are their customers Second and correct me if Im I'm wrong but the Horizon doesn't have an mail e-mail address at least the person I talked to at the office said they didn't This isn't intended as a criticism criticism criticism cism but it would be cool especially especially especially espe espe- for those of us on other campuses campuses campuses cam cam- and satellites to be able to submit letters etc electronically Just a suggestion R R.
