| Show I 1 Photo Cop Photo C p Citation Pushes P Student St dent to Boycott West est J j i Valley in Protest Encouraging Others to Follow Suit Dear Editor I recently was very surprised and disgruntled disgruntled disgruntled dis dis- t to receive a speeding ticket in the mail from West V Valley City's automated speed monitoring system I am writing to voice my protest against the use of such a system I have had a sterling traffic record until this citation I have never been pulled over in my si six years behind the wheel Suddenly I find that a machine has taken a picture of me driving my fathers father's v van n which it turns out had a speedometer I have been fined 50 for a violation that I was not conscious conscious conscious con con- of making There was no chance v. v to discuss my violation violation viola- viola i tion with the arresting officer because there was no arresting officer There was no fair trial because the testimony of the ma machine hine is taken at face value It cannot be cross examined examined examined ex ex- ex- ex and it cannot be successfully con con- tested It is offensive to me that I should receive a computer generated summons summons summons-in in the mail mailand mailand and automatically be expected to cough up 50 for an offense I have no memory of committing and of which I have no way to acquit myself I have discussed this situation with my family and friends who agree with me that this is a blatant method of generating revenue for the city wrapped city wrapped up in the guise of public safety In that light I encourage encourage en en- courage all who have been victimized zed by this offensive system to boycott doing business in West Valley City whenever possible In spite of the f fact ct that l I work I and attend school in West Valley City you may be assured that I I.
