Dazley left his native England to attend boot camp in the United States According to Jacque Illguth Dazley's great-granddaughter great he spent his first fust day in America walking the streets of New York City Thanksgiving day was cold and miserably wet Dazley was hungry he had hoo no money and no idea what he would do for food A family saw him on the street and took pity on him They invited him in to share their meal with them then They had quite a feast for wartime and Dazley learned that they were celebrating Thanksgiving Dazley himself was thankful that someone would open their home to a lonely hungry for for- eigner The young man was favorably impressed with this custom of what would become his adopted homeland |
