that were released Monday Oct 19 The release of Rushs Rush's Count Counterparts and Pearl Jam Jams Jam's s Vs had record shop owners smiling smiling smiling smil smil- ing as midnight and sales first-day-sales around the Salt Lake Valley sold hundreds of each release at quite a afew afew afew few locations Counterparts Rushs Rush's studio release will not only keep their already worldwide fans ecstatic but this album probably will make their pool of fans overflow Radio time for Stick It Out their first single has been constant and h heavy avy Radio probably hasn't given them this much attention since the Moving Pictures song Tom Sawyer Counterparts takes the theme of opposites how they work and sometimes dont don't which make up our pleasures and problems in the tle world society Vs is only Pearl Jams Jam's second release but with all the success publicity and awards received on MTV fro from their last effort Ten S they have become the biggest name in grunge and a favorite among millions of listeners Now on a time first-time listen through Rushs Rush's Counterparts may seem a bit harder-edged harder and ag aggressive aggressive es- es sive than their last effort Roll The Bones partly because they have removed most of the com com- electronic sound which has been a big part of their efforts for forthe forthe forthe the last decade They have somewhat resurrected the roots of their 2112 album pumping out the heavy guitar and percussion The first single Stick It Out Out which has heavy rotation on rock stations since its release is one of these hard-driving hard new songs t that at brings a smile of approval to hear this Canadian trio pump out some heavy lead in a manner that still is all the style and class of Rush The message behind Stick It Out seems to remind listeners of how easy it is to give in to heated emotion and instinctive reaction which can blur our vision on making quick decisions and forming thoughts thoughts' on important issues in our bands that address the issues of today musicians that are doing what they can cain can with their talent to hopefully wake up people to the world around them Rush always has had the ability to evolve with the times and there is much to be said for this incredibly talented band that had their first release in 1970 They have come comeback comeback comeback back to some hard driving basics with a new world twist Rush fans will be more than pleased with this performance and the package that it comes in they have the best inlay art in their history which furthers the album theme and of course all lyrics are included For those who haven't given Rush much or a try or have thought that they are in the reg regular lar rock class this is the album to listen to Pearl Jams Jam's s same great grunge style and sound as was experienced on Ten with a few new sounds have given listeners another set of great songs to shake their heads to and thoroughly enjoy Although VS YS might not live up to all the im immense immense im- im In- In mense hype it still is an emotion evoking effort with great content Counterparts receives four stars out of four quite possibly their best performance yet VS YS
